What if I put my workout on shuffle mode?

There are obvious reasons why an exercise routine concentrates on specific areas of the body each time: it’s easier to remember, and there seems to be common sense benefits to exercising a muscle for X minutes at once rather than X over the course of a few days.

But that got me wondering: suppose I’m a weirdo who has a consistent exercise program, but who randomly distributes the routines over the course of the week every week, keeping number of exercises per day intact from the original program. How would that affect my physical fitness and the efficacy of the program?

You should aim to use your muscles when they are rested enough to be trained again. This is different for each muscle group. Your abs will recover much faster than your glutes (or mine do).

A training program should be focused on letting tired muscles rest and making rested muscles tired.

Doing random exercises seems counterproductive in this context.
