What if Puss in Boots drank the potion? (Shrek 2 spoilers)

In the movie, Puss first urges Shrek to let him drink the potion, just to make sure it is safe. Donkey, realizing he is getting one-upped in the role of annoying talking animal, volunteers himself.

But this made me wonder, what do you think would have happened to Puss in boots if he drank the potion?

And for that matter, what do you think the potion’s effects did to Donkey’s true love (dragon? )?

He would have turned into one of the big cats (e.g.: lion, panther, cheeta).

But the point of the potion is that it was linked to “your true love.” We see what happens to Shrek’s true love when he turns into He-Man: Fionna turns back into Princess Fiona. We have no idea what happens to Donkey’s but we presume that whatever beautiful form she took was still incubating the eggs. What is a beautiful dragon, anyway? Tiamat?

As far as we know, there isn’t any true love linked to Puss-in-Boots. Presumably, she would have changed, but there was no linked character that the midnight’s kiss would have made the change permanent.

Melanie Griffith would’ve gotten her old face back?

You are assuming that Dragon was/is Donkey’s true love, rather than a fly-by-night romance he abandoned because she was being moody.
<shrug> Interesting idea, tho’.

I bow before you, Eve.

Oh, please. It was clear that Puss-in-Boots’s true love was Puss-in-Boots.

He would have ended up spending the movie on a rock staring in a pool of water and become a soft drink salesman.

Donkey turned back by midight anyway.
AND dragon was moody for a reason…

BEST.

BURN.

EVER.

So as long as he licked himself before midnight, he’d be set, right?

But on the other hand, doesn’t he say something about a wife and kittens, when he’s explaining to Shrek why he accepted the King’s gold? I’m not sure that I completely believe him there, and at the very least, he’s, well, a bit of a wandering tomcat, but it’s still possible that he does have a true love (well, mostly true) somewhere.

And I’m not convinced that he would turn into a tiger… It seems to me that tiger:puss :: ogre:human, so if anything, I might expect that a tiger would turn into a housecat. Color me clueless about what Dragon looked like for that time, though.

And I think that it’s interesting to note that Fiona’s ideal form (by fairy godmother standards, at least: Obviously, she has a different notion) was exactly how she looked by day in the first movie. I’m not entirely sure what to make of that, though.

“I’ll be true… enough!”

Or Puss in Boots might have turned into something else altogether. The mushroom on the path turned into a rose, which is an unrelated species.
And vanilla, I think if we’re going to believe in fairy tale true love, we need to believe the Lover would stay with the Beloved, even when she was preggers with fire breathing septuplets.

Good point. Maybe he’d turn into Antonio Banderas.

Puss already drank the potion, that’s where he gets his dewy kitty eyes of DOOM.

What if Donkey, after having drank the potion, had managed to get to Dragon to kiss her before midnight? And, what if Dragon’s other form happened to be human? And, what if Dragon was already pregnant with winged, fire-breathing donkeys?

Anyhoo…

The director said himself, Dragon turned into a Pegasus.
She was supposed to have a significant role in the movie, but it was cut due to time or something.

puss himself beleives he is handsom so he would probly stay the same. Fairy Godmother might turn him in to a tiger or something though.-shrugs-

Hey, did anyone else get a PM from this namid fellow, saying the same thing he just said in this post?

Not me, Chronos.

The idea of Puss In Boots already being in his internalized ideal form is interesting. That would also explain why Fiona regained her beautiful daytime form from the first movie.

Funny how this thread got randomly bumped on a day when Shrek 2 was showing on TBS.

If they showed the commentary to which the bumper speaks, that would make sense.
