Terri’s sentiments were deliberated and decided in a court of law many years ago, and involved, I believe, seven witnesses, including her sister who sides with the parents anyway.
Then you seriously haven’t been paying attention.
Both of these problems have been hashed out about a hundred times just on these boards.
What are you talking about?
If you are looking at this from a religious perspective, then a civil divorce would make no difference whatsoever to the situation. So he would still be ‘sleeping with other women while still married to Terri’ in the eyes of the church. You can’t have it both ways.
If Terri dies tonight,
tomorrow will begin the court battle over the deposition of the body.
 Yikes!!
Hope she dies tomorrow rather than today or Sunday. One of those days would delight the religious whackjob tendancy way too much…
::Congress subpoenas the corpse::
“Mrs. Schiavo, are you conscious?”
“::moan::”
“SHE ANSWERED!”
“That’s just gas escaping!”
… I’m going to hell.
I don’t know: dating usually implies some sort of sex, and dating was what they seemed to suggest that Michael do.
I feel I must comment a bit more on this issue before she dies. It is a bit more of IMHO, but this is the closest fit I could find, and I didn’t want to start a new thread:
I have come to the conclusion of feeding (and watering) thought a tube could be considered abnormal means of preserving life, but totally withholding food and water all together is murder, the same as if a terrorist was locked in a cell and denied food and water. Terri should be allowed to try to take food and water by mouth, even if she dies in the process. A mother would be expect to do the sme with her child if the child couldn’t eat.
I do have some questions about her condition and don’t know enough about it to judge if she is conscience or not. I don’t think enough information has been made public for anyone to decide just how conscience she really is. I do have some questions about her husbands actions, but again don’t know enough to judge. I don’t consider him her husband anymore which brings into question if he can speak for her anymore.
I think the issue as presented by the public required further investigation, and substainign her in the mean time, but understand that the public is not given all info to make such a decision.
I feel that the current action by the state is wrong and evil, but it’s just a feeling.
God help us all
Instead of merely commenting on this issue, you might have read the thread up to now, and maybe read just about any comprehensive summary of the case available at cnn.com or any other news source. Terri is far, far from able from “trying to take food and water by mouth.” Moreover, there is absolutely loads of information about her condition which is available to anyone who puts forth even the slightest effort. She is not conscience, at all, and has no awareness of her surroundings. These are established as medical and legal facts, and that information has not been withheld from the public. Your questions about the husband’s actions are irrelevent. The woman made her wishes known, and these have been established after lengthy deliberation in a court of law. The husband’s guardianship is not in doubt. He has the authority to act on her wishes and withdraw life support. Like all private citizens going about his private business, he has the right to make deeply personal decisions within his legal rights without having his motives questions or decisions second guessed. The actions by the courts have only been to establish and protect the legal rights of the husband.
Your ignorance on the case is appalling, but even more appalling is your claim that somehow the information isn’t available. It’s everywhere. It’s right here in this thread. Try a little bit harder to get the information, by, say, going to any news source in the world right now or turn your TV to any channel that isn’t Fox News.
God help us all, indeed.
Strangely,
Terri’s parents, in their latest request to the court
purport that Terri tried to say, when the tube was being removed
“I wanna live!”

What, like leave some food and water by her bed and see if she eats it?
Brain scientists say that the part of the brain that makes you conscious isn’t there anymore. What more information could possibly allow the public to make a more accurate judgement than the people who have examined her and actually know what they are talking about?
Actually, she said, “IIIIII AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH.”
Which some Right to Lifer took to mean, “I want to live.”
It could have just as easily been, “I want to die.”
I think once Terri dies, her parents will file suits to claim her body, to appealed ad nauseum, and file wrongful death lawsuits against Michael, to be appealed ad nauseum as well.
Also, Randal Terry will disappear from Bob and Mary’s lives, to resurface once the next cause that’s sexy and gets him in front of the cameras comes along.
A mother who put food and water down the throat of a child whom she knew could not swallow, thus choking them to death, would probably be guilty of a crime.
A pox on all their houses. Conflicting reports from sources with an axe to grind. Political and/or special interest groups spreading misinformation, downright lies, etc. Michael Shiavo saying and acting as if he were complicit in the shenanigans. Allegations of bribery, payoffs, etc. for special/requested treatment/mistreatment. Those who are talking don’t know and those who know aren’t talking. The media showing the same old video clips to sway audiences.
Poor Terri a pawn with no consideration of her value as a person past or present.
A struggle over power and money or money and power. A pox on all their houses!
Well, according to this article the wrangling over the remains has already begun.
You can’t believe anything in that paper. It’s no true Scotsman.
Okay, I just wanted to use that line.
Terri can’t swallow, so any feeding is going to have to be done by a tube–if not the PEG, then with a nasogastric or orogastric tube.
No, a mother whose child couldn’t eat would be expected to seek medical attention. She certainly wouldn’t be expected to keep trying to feed the child until he aspirates.
There has been plenty of information made available to make that determination–her CT scan, her EEG, reports from the physicians who have actually examined and worked with her. There is not enough to convince everyone, because some people simply can’t be convinced.
