What if USC ends up being really good this year? Will teams that play them get shafted because of an artificially lower ranking due to not being eligible for the coaches’ poll?
Being a USC fan is going to suck for the next few years, but it would really suck if they ended up being monsters with an artificially low rank.
No cite, but I read somewhere that USC will be factored into the rankings so that their opponents won’t be punished, then they will be removed for publication.
I have a couple questions about their loss of scholarships. I don’t remember offhand the number of scholies they’re losing, but for argument’s sake, let’s say it’s 25 (at 4 years per scholarship). So, in essense, they’ve lost 100 player/years, right? I know a number of players have transferred out already, and some who were commitments have decided to not enroll (Seantrel Henderson to Miami being the best known). Will USC then not fill these players positions, and be then be able to use that toward paying their penalty? If 5 seniors left this summer, would that mean they would be down to 95 player/years remaining for their penalty?
It’s 30 over 3 years - so 10 per year. A Div. I school like USC has no trouble filling player slots with non-scholarship athletes that it won’t be an issue. They don’t lose player slots - they lose scholarships.
Ah, thanks. I didn’t realize that was how it would work. I think that is a pretty fair solution.
I am a huge USC fan, and as good as I want them to do (even without rankings), I would have felt bad if other teams ended up getting hurt in their rankings.
