What is 2nd Thought and how do I get rid of it?

We downloaded Spyhunter and run regular scans on our home computer. Then, after the scan is done, we delete everything.

One thing, 2nd Thought, keeps popping up. Spyhunter says the type is Registry, that the danger is Severe, and the description is “A variant of the Pugi Search Explorer/Search Toolbar/Homepage Hijacker. Installs as an ActiveX drive-by download (possibly titled free brower plug-in). May generate pop up ads. Also passes web addresses that you visit to its home server. Produced by CPM Media. http://www.2nd-thought.com.” We don’t click on pop up ads except to close them.

We will get rid of it, but it will come back when we do the next scan. Ivylad did one scan, deleted it, then immediately did another scan, and there it was again.

How do we make it go away? What are we accessing that makes it keep coming back? (We’re on Comcast High Speed, if that helps.)

I went to the 2nd Thought website. It’s less than helpful. A big gray screen, with a tiny disclaimer at the top. That’s it.

Hi. I am in no way a computer expert, but until one comes along, I’ll give a suggestion. I’m assuming you use Internet Explorer - if you are, try going to the menu Tools -> Internet Options. Go to the Advanced tab, and uncheck the box for Enable Install on Demand (Internet Explorer). After I did that, I had no problems with random stuff downloading without my permission.

Google is your friend.

Second Thought Uninstaller Program

You may be able to delete it from the startup files on your computer. Go here to see. Run > msconfig > startup tab >and uncheck stcloader.exe. from the list if it is there. Restart your computer and then do a serch for stcloader.exe and delete it. I’m going to do some more searching now about how to get it out of the registry.

This page at Symantec instructs you how to remove the pest from the registry. Make a backup of your registry before editing. There are instructions on the page on how to do this. Good Luck
