What is a "dirty" martini?

My girlfriend asked me what it meant when a martini was ordered “dirty”.

In a book she is reading, a guy orders 2 vodka martinis both a little dirty.

I said it was probably refering to the amount of vermouth added to vodka. But I also said I’d post here to be sure.

Is this correct?

IIRC, a “dirty martini” has a little olive juice added from the jar of olives.
