In my never ending quest to travel light, I am now seeking a good wrist watch with a built in alarm. The alarm must be loud enough to wake me up. I sleep soundly. I never had a watch with an alarm, and some that I’ve heard on others sound too quiet for an alarm. I usually take a portable battery operated alarm clock when I travel. Watch size does not matter. What do you use? Any suggestions?
I use my cell phone’s alarm function. It’s loud! And it has a snooze function.
If you have a digital phone with a good roaming plan, you may be using the phone anyways. (That’s my story.) So, why not use all it’s features?
P.S. I hate wearing watches.
I have five watches that have an alarm feature. Three of them are the same (one was dad’s and is “retired”, I wear one, and the other is a duplicate because I ended up winning the eBay bids on it and the one I wear at the same time – Seiko Bell-Matics). Those three have automatic movements, but you have to wind the alarm seperately. The other one is a Vulcain Cricket. It has a louder alarm, but you have to wind the movement as well as the alarm. I don’t wear that one because it was dad’s, and I have other watches to wear. And I have a digital watch I got back in the '80s. I don’t wear it because I’ve forgotten how to set it. (If anyone know how to set a Lorus Alarm-Chronograph – there’s a sticker on the back that says “Ref. R RQ025-2” and the back is stamped “Y799-4770” with “Z0” in a little box" – please let me know.
Probably not the kind of watches you need.
The motels I use when travelling have alarm clocks in the rooms. You can also get a wake-up call on the phone.
Casio’s are pretty good. My altimeter/electronic compass combo has 5 alarm settings. When I really need to get up, I set them one minute apart. Thus, I would suggest buying an electronic watch and making sure that you can set multiple alarms on it.
I use my old Nokia 5160 (I think). Like noclue said, it’s loud and has a snooze button. I actually have a vibrating alarm clock at home. A little doughnut thing slips between the mattress and box spring and makes for a good morning.
I never checked out my cell phone’s alarm features and will look into that. I am more concerned with international travel because I try to go carry on only, and some of the small non-U.S. airlines have a lighter weight load allowance for carry on than U.S. carriers. I noticed some clip on type watches for people who do not like wrist watches.
Those Seiko Bell-Matics are collectors’ watches now. I’d consider it because the alarm is supposed to be loud. Vulcain’s are supposed to be very expensive with probably a lot of collectgor editions.
I never rely on hotel wake up calls but use them as back ups. I’m looking for an alarm watch mostly for international travel, and I sometimes stay in places that might not have the wake up call feature or alarm clocks in rooms. I may be staying in a convent in Italy.
Thanks for the input. I think I’ll go to a Casio outlet or store and see if they’ll activate the alarms for me. At least I know that I could return the watch if I didn’t like it.
Something I hadn’t thought of! Perhaps a vibrating alarm watch. Thanks!
I always liked all of the Timex digital watches when I used to use digital watches.
