The song Lish Young Buy-A-Broom tells the story of a man who meets a woman and they run off and have a good time. The woman is called a ‘lish young buy-a-broom’.
What is the etymology of ‘lish’? I assume it means ‘attractive’?

“Lish” is Cumberland dialect for “Smart, active, sprightly. Probably a consequential sense derived from lisk—the groin being the part of the body wherein activity might be supposed to reside.”
Somebody who sells brooms [;)] – presumably while announcing it verbally in this case – and other household items, otherwise known as a tinker.
