I think for me it is dysfunctional or abusive families, I get this is a popular trope most recently seen on the show Empire, but I can’t stand to watch this due to getting my fill of this situation in real.
I can’t stomach anything that casts infidelity in a positive light.
Humour that is generated by humiliation of someone.
Romantic comedies with pretty people in exciting, comical, passionate situations finding love and living happily ever after. I found looking for a mate a mostly disappointing, long tiresome slog. The only men pursuing me with fervor were ugly losers. I got so weary of dating (over 20 years) and getting rejected by the men I was attracted to, it seemed all the good ones really WERE taken. Oh, there were bright spots here and there. I realize what I just said doesn’t reflect well on me. But overall, I found my life was not like Julia Roberts’ or Kate Hudsons onscreen
I’m the opposite here: ugly family dramas like Long Day’s Journey Into Night and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf give me encouragement that somebody is taking the trouble to write about this stuff, instead of zombies and superheroes.
The Bridges of Madison County.
Exactly the type of story I hate.
Any storyline involving rape or the killing of children is a no for me. I just find it too upsetting.
I generally do not like stories that are set in cold, freezing places. I had enough of it during my childhood in Iceland, Minnesota and Newfoundland. I do not remember cold fondly, I remember freezing my little ass off every time I went outside. For example, have not seen “Snowpiercer.”
I hate Action/Adventure films. May little pea-brain can’t keep track of the good guys or the bad guys. I don’t like films that glorify infidelity. " The Bridges of Madison County," as mentioned above…
Come to think of it, I’m not really a movie guy at all, at least not modern movies. I love the old classics, and if I do go see a film now it will be to keep my husband company as he’s a huge film fan.
I also find this upsetting.
I lose my mind when there are military subplots. It boggles me how wrong most writers/directors can get it.
The only thing you are missing is banging your head against something hard because of the stupid plot and ham-fisted message.
Inspirational glurge masquerading as a plot.
Many movies about interracial relationships simply reinforce racial stereotyping. And I hate, hate, hate “White men = strong, confident, charismatic; Asian men = dorky, awkward and nerdy” depictions.
And cheesy movies - I used to have a high tolerance for cheesiness, actually. Now my tolerance of it is near zero.
And I hate it when men are depicted as stupid. Having very much been a late bloomer, and heard “idiot” or “dense” thrown at me, such insults still sting.
So, really, all your stuck with is puns, then.
Nearly all other humor is humiliation.
Uh, no…there is plenty of humor that isn’t. :dubious:
The “absentee divorced father” trope. Can’t stand it.
Bodice rippers, wherein the man kidnaps and essentially rapes the woman and she falls in love with him for it.
Ugh, sets back women’s rights 300 years.
Kids killing kids - Hunger Games, the 100
