What is an "intefadeh?"

I was reading that George W. Bush used this word to describe the result of Clinton’s negotiations with Arafat (or something) and I can’t find it in my Merriam Webster’s dictionary. (My unabridged OED is, sadly, not with me at the moment.)

I don’t think it’s one of those words he likes to make up, like subliminable.

They got it wrong. The root is Nuun fa Daad. Tenth form, intefeda, masdar al-intefaadah.

Form one root meaning, to shake out, dust off, shiver.
Tenth form meaning, shiver, shoake oneself off; to wake up and come to consciousness. Political usage, popular uprising / (political) awakening. This predates the current intefaadeh.

Dictionary is refering to a non-existant root, probably a typo at some point.
