p.s. I hope someone who actually knows Latin stumbles upon your thread. I had 3 years in high school, but that was before the Civil War, and I didn’t retain enough to have any idea if my suggestion is even plausible.

archeota is the word used in, e.g. Justinian’s Digest. Chartophylax is a good suggestion, although it’s clearly a Greek loan-word.

“Archeota” also sounds Greek. If you want a genuinely Latin word, I’d suggest tabularius, which has the advantage of being directly related to tabularium which was the name actually used by the Romans for their archives of official documents located in one of the temples in Forum Romanum. According to my Latin/German dictionary, though, tabularius as used for the archivist is post-classic.
