Picked up a tube of Cortizone 10. I’ll give it a try for a few days. If that doesn’t help then I’ll try a tube of Benadryl cream.
I’m nearly certain this isn’t poison ivy or oak. I haven’t been anywhere near it. Calamine lotion is really good for that.
It may be a reaction to a little tree I cut down last Thursday. It had shot up unexpectedly right next to the house. It was at the roof line and had to go. A few swings with my hatchet took care of it. It did rub on my arm while I was cutting it up to put on the curb. Maybe it triggered a reaction.
For most itches hot water is a good 8-10 hour fix. Put the affected area under running hot water and increase the heat til you just can’t stand it. Dry it off - no itch. This depletes the histamines in the skin which make you itch and it takes 8 hours or so for them to build back up.
As a super-allergic-to-urushiol person, I second the hot water treatment. While the hot water is running over the itchy area, it feels great - like you’re scratching the hell out of it. About 20 seconds later, no more itch for a good 8+ hours.
I am addicted to this product (the itch cream) for any kind of scratchy rash, bite, itch, or sting: http://www.ivarest.com/
It’s super-strength calamine with extra soothers/anti-allergy. You look pink and splotchy, but relief is pretty immediate.
Posted a similar emergency request yesterday after trimming back wisteria left me itching all over. I tried cold water and I tried vinegar. Then Wasp-Eze brought sweet, sweet relief. It’s benzocaine and anti-histamine combined and works for most rashes and stings that come from plants or animals.
