I heard someone refer to “Japanese High Fashion” and reference that in Japan, that is the culture.
What does this mean? Are there some kind of cool cutting edge things going on we westerners are deprived of? Are they dressing in regular clothes or something freaky? Pictures please.
Sorry no pics. High fashion in Japan is much like when you watch the Emmy’s and the talk about so and so’s dress designed by random famous artist etc.
It’s really freaking expensive clothing in some cases very customized to a specific person.
In the US we tend to leave that level of dress to our superstars and models. For middle class people rare occasions like a high school prom or your wedding day. In Japan their are more people that might spend that type of money to look nice on a single night out.
For examples of high fashion pick up any random magazine that has advertisements in it. The clothing the models are wearing(usually the ones selling cars, jewelery and expensive gadgets) would be examples of high fashion.
I’m given to understand that because the Japanese (and Koreans) live where there isn’t much space for building/owning individual houses, they put their money instead into things like fashion - clothing, Coach bags, Rolex watches, and jewelry.
Although my crowd is more of the “Its fine if all the necessary bits are covered” kind, I do occasionally see some people who wouldn’t look out of place on a red carpet. As for the accessories and bags, almost everyone I know has a couple of extremely expensive things.
When I visited Hong Kong with a friend a couple of years back, it shocked me when she bought an expensive bag that would easily be worth around 3 months salary for her.
Personally I think think they are overpriced and too flashy, but apparently I am some kind of a hick in these matters.
And then there are the edgy creatures who make you wonder how long they took to look like that.

Look for the links with「系」in them, they have links to lots of sites. It makes me tired just looking at them
