What is Nick Yozamp's ethnic background?

For anyone who watches Jeopardy regularly, as I do, you’ll know they did the College Jeopardy show recently. The winner, [url=]Nick Yosant, looks like he comes from a mixed race background, but it’s hard to tell.

Maybe part Black, part Asian but mostly White?

Anyone know?

Too bad he missed the FJ question on Friday, but he still won the championship. One thing that made him a good player is that he wasn’t afraid to guess the right answer even if he wasn’t 100% sure. Lots of time on Jeopardy there’s an obvious answer even if you don’t know the answer. I’m going to guess that Surya is pre-med since she did so well on any medicine/chemistry related questions.

If you look in the 1910 US census, there’s only one family by the name of Yozamp in the US and they lived in Benton County, MN. Dad was Simon Yozamp, born in IL. Mom was born in Poland. Four kids, all born in MN.

In the 1920 census, the Yozamp family of MN were still the only Yozamps in the US, still living in Benton County. Dad is now a laborer in a paper factory, two oldest sons(17/15) are stone cutters in granite quarry. Total of nine kids living home. Must have been the long winter nights in MN.

So, at least his father’s side of the family is white/Polish.

Hi, Its actually Yozamp, pronounced just like its spelt. The name is Austrian, our Great Grand parents were immigrants and we believe their Family’s came from Poland prior, but not sure. We also believe, but cant confirm, a change in spelling once they landed in America. When my Grandfather (Henry Yozamp)passed in 05, we found his birth certificate from 1918 stating his parents were both born in Austria, he was the youngest of 13 children and di not know much history and left the home to work at 13, so as he put it “we never really discussed the family history” Thanks Jim Yozamp Bend, Or

Simon is my Great Grandfather, and yes there were accounts of him being born in IL., now my Grandfather’s birth certificate could be wrong and so could of he, we would like to know?? Grandma did speak great polish, but again we think Austria because of the info on Grandpas certificate??? If any other Yozamps know it would be great to hear your info. But yes, all are white and Polish in decent. Nicks Mom is white and I believe Irish.

Austria might refer to the Austro-Hungarian Empire (a.k.a. Austria-Hungary), which includes parts of modern day Poland. Thus, Austria and Poland could both be correct.
