What is Socratic.org up to?

Socratic.org is a homework help page and, because I’m a sucker for that kind of thing, I contributed 20 answers in one sitting. Then I started to notice that a huge number of the questions could be easily answered via a Google search (alarm bell one). Then, on a hunch, I did Google searches of the first 8 oddly-phrased questions I could find, the kind with “My teacher is a stickler for this” or similar, and every one of them had been asked seven years earlier on either Answer.com or Yahoo Answer.

If I’m not actually helping real, current students, not only am I wasting my time, but there’s something fishy going on. What could they be stockpiling answers for old/fake questions for?

It’s probably keyword spamming. They know people are searching for those things, so they want to make sure that their site comes up on the searches.

Thanks, that sounds plausible.
