What is that thing around Kermit The Frog’s neck? I’ve never seen anything analogous to it on any frog. Has Kermit secretly been a tailess frilled lizard all this time or something?
In the talk section of the linked wiki article someone says it’s a collar that they (vaguely) recall seeing him remove. I don’t know if that is true or not.
It’s a collar of High Explosives, remotely controlled.
All the Muppets wear a version…
It’s what permitted Henson to control these savage creature, & make them his slaves.
Later, they rose up against him!!
Flesh eating disease my tuchus. It was Beaker that gnawed on him!
I always assumed it was a stylized frog-puppet-type jester’s collar.
Oddly enough Kermit started life as a vaguely Lizard like puppet and morphed into the Kermit the Frog we all know.
Jim (Such an odd fact to know.)
I’ve wondered this too. It looks like a pet’s collar to me.
Completely wild assed guess, perhaps it’s to signify he’s a prince?
It’s definitely a collar. I remember an episode of The Muppet Show when someone ripped it off him and he reacted as if he were suddenly naked. Which of course, he was.
What, no one remembers when he had fangs?
Which, of course, I can no longer find evidence of.
Honest I could’ve sworn he had fangs and bushy black eyebrows at one point
That was during Vincent Price’s visit to the Muppet Show, I believe.
Little known fact: pig snouts create amazingly unsightly hickeys.
Brilliant! link (missing eye brows though)
If you want to go even further back, Kermit started life as Henson’s mother’s coat.
It is something to keep him from looking so naked.
Examine most Muppets that are constructed in the same basic fashion as Kermit, and you’ll find that they usually have some costuming element around the throat. This is to help conceal the joint that allows the Muppeteer to rotate the character’s head. That’s what Kermit’s collar is for.
Not that I am implying that Muppeteers are known for their use of joints, though that would tend to explain some of those episodes relating to the planet Koozbane.
The muppet with the fangs AND eyebrows sings in the introduction in the first season. There is a link to the episode w/ vincent price on the link posted above. Click that one and you’ll see him. He DOES look just like kermit though.
That’s Green Frackle. He’s sort of Kermit-shaped, but considered a monster.
