What is the best kid-friendly image search engine?

This is part of my ongoing, sudden job change situation. Basically, I just became a computer application teacher out of nowhere after being an English teacher for years.

I want the kids to be able to locate a picture on the internet, save it to their desktop, and insert it into a PowerPoint.

I could have them use Google’s image search, but that would require me to have them all turn on safe search(not a huge deal). Even so, I’m concerned that it wouldn’t be safe enough.

Are their image search engines designed for kids? They are middle school, if you are interested.

I was using google image search during school from about 11/12 years old. I think it’s fine.

Moved Cafe Society --> IMHO.

I think you’ll be fine using Google. Even with Safe Search turned off, I’ve rarely found inappropriate images in the results for innocuous keywords.

How old are you?

I’m 17 now. I remember being in grade 6 and 7 (ten turning 11, 11 turning 12. ) when using it.

Are there any other image search engines at all? Indexing images is a lot harder than it seems.

I just did several that were not sexual in any way, and I get porn. Google seems bad at remembering what Safe Search you are on, maybe they changed it back on? Otherwise, I think that even one image sneaking through is more than the OP wants. Just things like finding Daniel Radcliffe’s wang when searching for Harry Potter.

To the question: can you bookmark GIS, and have them use it though the link? Specifically, this link: Google Images
where “&safe=active” at the end forces it into Safe Search.
