What is the Best Rap Song and Group(even though I don't like rap)

I’m gonna show my age here, but I’m just throwing out some of my favorite songs:

“Tricky,” Run DMC

“Everything is Everything,” Lauryn Hill

“Final Hour,” Lauryn Hill (“We’re about to change the focus from the richest to the brokest” - kick ass line!)

“Maniac,” Eve (best song to listen to after a night at a club)

“Queen Bitch Part 2,” L’il Kim

“N.O.T.O.R.I.O.U.S.,” Biggie

“Drug Ballad,” Eminem (I generally do not like Em, but this song is awesome - especially the chorus, whoa-oh!)

“XXplosive,” Dr. Dre (I love the beat, also on the new Erikah Badu song, “Bag Lady”)

“Forgot About Dre,” Dr Dre and Eminem

“Miss Jackson,” OutKast

I agree that OutKast is unbelievable. I also think Dr Dre is an awesome producer, and I love Eve and L’il Kim for being so honest and real.

Incidentally, I saw OutKast last night in DC and they were so fucking awesome! I had the best time. Incredible live show.

And FTR, Limp Bizkit is NOT rap. They have no flow. Screaming words is not rap - my definition is much pickier than that, I guess.

someone who says this:

has no right saying this:

imo.

Phenomenon by LLCoolJ

…I dunno, I just like that Bill Withers bass lick.

and another vote for Bring Tha Noize by Public Enemy and Anthrax

I’ll be totally unoriginal and add to the gushing over Public Enemy and Nation of Millions. I also have to agree with Milossarian that Paul’s Boutique is inexplicably underrated.

The Roots’ last album, Things Fall Apart, is amazing.

Did anyone else find anything wrong with this statement?

Then how do you know you don’t like it?

Dr. J

If y’all like Dr. Dre’s beats, then you should check out some songs produced by Cold 187um from Above the Law. I don’t like Dr. Dre that much, although I have a lot of the old N.W.A. stuff.

I can’t really relate to all the gangster stuff, but for a brilliant album of really meaningful words and great music you gotta check

One Day It’ll All Make Sense
by
Common

Others I like:
Black On Both Sides - Mos Def
Wu-Tang Forever - Wu-Tang Clan
Aquemini - Outkast

The closest I come to liking rap is Kid Rock’s “Cowboy”, and that’s only because the background music is Country Hardcore.

Satan,

You nailed that puppy on the head. A close second would be The Rappin’ Duke.

“While you were in diapers,
Wettin’ the sheets,
I was at the Ponderosa
Rappin’ to the beat.
Da-ha, da-ha,
Da-haha haha ha”

Now, that is ART.

I like (some) rap for two different reasons; the music/talent and the outrageousness of some of the content, the latter because it makes me laugh. So I like basically two different kinds of rap. For example, KRS-One is the musical and intelligent best, but he’s really more hip-hop than rap, which I consider different but similar genres. Snoop and Dre are kind of a mixture of the two categories. UGK, on the other hand–it’s all about the hilarity. “18 inch lorenzos yokahama tires, when i ride by all them bitches think they pussy on fire”–from a song called “they ain’t trippin on me; they wanna fuck my car.” They crack me up. Same w/ Eazy-E: anybody ever heard “Gimme That Nutt”? First time I heard it I laughed 'til I cried.

I’m not the world’s biggest rap fan, but I really, really like “Country Grammar” by Nelly. That damn song has been stuck in my head for about a week and a half now. Other good songs: “Gin and Juice”, “Gangsta’s Paradise”, and anything by Coolio.

“You’re Gonna Get Yours” by Public Enemy.
