I stop and will go to pretty much any length to get a dog back home if I am anywhere in my area. If it doesn’t have tags, I take it to my local vet and get it scanned, plus walk it around the area asking everyone if they recognize it. On a road trip I would not stop, because then I might be stuck having to take it to a shelter, plus I probably would not have any extra time for dealing with it.
I bet you would never bite. Unless asked to. ![]()
true story: we live on a cul de sac with only one other home so far. The folks across the way have a daughter who brought her little ball of fur to stay with the folks while she was interviewing for new work in Atlanta…we met and petted the dog, who was allowed to run loose a bit while someone was out with him.
one day, we came home and it was cold rain, a little animal was running about in the circle and approached us as we put our car into the garage…it obviously wasn’t the dog from across the street, since this one had very short hair…so I took him into the garage, fed and dried him, and tried to reach neighbors who might know where the dog belonged…no luck
so I called the police, who handle stray dogs. They came quickly and took the dog to their detention center where they would hold it until the shelter was open…
The neighbor came home, found their newly clipped dog had somehow gotten loose…and came around to ask if we had seen him…
