Mad props to whomever suggested Southern Culture on the Skids. I was introduced to them in the mid-90s, and wore out the CD “Too Much Pork for Just One Fork” (which includes this poll’s “Voodoo Cadillac,” as well as other greats like “Back in the Woods” and “CW James 00 Spy”).
Not to worry I got it in pretty early, tho as I said it was the third one of that name mentioned.
Never mind. I can’t spell.
Thanks! ![]()
When I was in college I got to see them live at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh. And then after I moved to California I saw them again at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco.
If I had thought of it, my fifth would have been Stevie Ray Vaughn’s version of Voodoo Child. Oh well, Jimi Hendrix’s rendition is great too.
I wondered if I was missing something.
Yes. Newen Afrobeat do several Fela Kuti covers. Their versions of Zombie and
Opposite People feature Fela’s son Seun on vocals & sax.
They do a bloody good show btw, well worth a look on YouTube.

I missed the nomination phase of this one. Oh, well, there weren’t many to nominate.
Here are a few more:
Zorba the Greek - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
The Very Thought of You - Nat King Cole or Billie Holiday
Viper’s Drag - Fats Waller
Zonky - McKinney’s Cotton Pickers
I missed this thread but would just add Vigilante Shit by Taylor Swift.
Noted.
