What is the bowling pin sweeper thing called?

You know, the thing that comes down and sweeps the pins out of the way for the next frame. That thing.

A pinsetter.

i’ve heard it called a “pinspotter”

You might be thinking of the rack that comes down and sets the pins up.

I’m talking about the long bar that sweeps the pins away so that they can be set up properly.

The rake.

I’ve heard it referred to as an arm or also a guard.

Looks like these guys call it a safety guard. I always called it a sweeper, FWIW.

In 25 years, I’ve rarely heard it called anything but the sweeper.

The other night at cosmic bowling, I called it a “target”. Combination of blacklights, old contact lenses, and a pinsetter out of timing equals embarassment for ol’ Max.
