What is the country you most want to visit?

Can I list two?

Canada, 'cos.

And Colombia, 'cos Cartagena de Indias is beauuuuuutiful and I really liked my Colombian coworkers and I wasn’t allowed to go when I was consulting for a factory there because our bosses were afraid (I wasn’t, after all if I went I’d be babysat the whole time). And because, damnit, things aren’t going to get better unless people make them better.

Spain.

(And I swear it’s a coincidence I’m posting this right after Nava!)

And the American Jewboy who’s only been to Israel and wants to go to Spain next?

Sure, buddy. This has Jewish conspiracy written all over it.

Scotland. Iceland. Norway.

OK, so I have to tell the Ministry of Tourism to promote us with “Anybody who isn’t Jewish,” gotcha.

I’d like to see Canada. I know the OP said not to revisit, but saying you’ve seen Canada when you spent a day or two in Victoria B.C. is like saying you’ve done Mexico because you spent a few hours in Tijuana. I mean this time a motor trip around the country to really see as much as possible. I’m thinking of things like Banff, Lake Louise, Montreal, Toronto, and the Canadian side of Niagra Falls.

First, though, a car trip around the US states I haven’t seen yet.

I know someone who just spent 6 months teaching English to monks in Bhutan. It sounded amazing. So if you can quit…it’s possible!

My choices are Cambodia and Iran.

I’d love to go to Canada, because of the whole British/US/French cultural mix, the scenery, and the fact all the Canadians I’ve met have been really nice people. It seems rather a lot like NZ, but much closer to The Rest Of The World, if that makes sense.

After that? Cuba, followed by Egypt. There’s no practical reason why I can’t go to Cuba- it’s just expensive to actually get to, and I don’t speak enough Spanish yet- and whilst I’d love to see Egypt (Night Boat To Cairo!), every time I think about going a group of extremists blows up a tourist bus or something and I realise that all the good stuff from Egypt is in the British Museum anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d also like to go to South Africa (Specifically to Rorke’s Drift and Isandhlwana), Tanzania (just so I can say I’ve been to Dar es Salaam), Abu Dhabi (with a name like that, how can I not visit?), and Hong Kong.

I’d also dearly love to retrace the steps of Lawrence of Arabia through Arabia and Jordan, and ride both the Orient Express and the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Still not sure how I’m supposed to pay for all of this, though.

Scotland, specifically, the Scottish Highlands. I did a report on Scotland when I was in the fifth grade and I’ve loved it ever since (thanks again to National Geographic). Read Kidnapped, Outlander and anything I could get my hands on about Scotland. Loved Highlander and Braveheart. I have Webshots as my screen saver and it’s got Scotland all over it. I’ll get there someday.

Did you see the BBC Holiday programme a couple of weeks ago? Simon Calder travelled by boat down the Mekong through Laos and said it was a wonderful and welcoming country.

I have a looooong list, but at the moment Turkey seems to be at the top. Brazil is pretty high up there, too. I am somewhat hampered in my ability to check things off the list by a) time; b) money; and c) the fact that I don’t like traveling abroad by myself, so I need to have like-minded people who want to visit the same places I do.

Sneak me in and you’ve got a translator who will work for cigars and rum.

Egypt is on the top of my list. I’m told that you really have to see the pyramids in person to truly appreciate their majesty. Furthermore, I imagine that it would be quite enlightening to spend time in a muslim nation. The two things I’ve heard about Cairo are that 1) The traffic is absolutely insane, and 2) It has such a low crime rate that women feel safe walking down virtually any street at night. I’d love to see the real thing.

For the record, I can confirm that both Canada and New Zealand are home to extraordinary natural beauty. If you go to Canada, be sure to spend time in the Banff and Jasper national parks, and if you go to New Zealand, be sure to visit the Fiordland. Absolutely awe-inspiring.

Laos is well worth the effort. We really enjoyed the old royal capital of Luang Prabang. However, we haven’t been to Luang Prabang for a few years and hear now that the tourists have overrun the town.

Bhutan and Rwanda are mine. Rwanda to see the gorillas.
