What is the country you most want to visit?

Do the Faroe Islands count? I think they are actually part of Denmark, but after reading about them in a 1956 National Geographic in a doctors surgery (it was close to that date) I’ve always wanted to visit.

I’ve wanted to visit France since I was a small child. Took French as an elective in high school for just that reason.

Also, I’ve wanted to go to England just about as long - though that’s not the reason I took English in high school :stuck_out_tongue:

Of the places I’ve not yet visited, and in order:

Japan
Italy
Poland
Cambodia
Denmark

Out of curiosity, why Laos? People usually mention Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia (just Angkor really) when they talk about travel in that part of the world. Is the fact that Laos isn’t as big of tourist draw part of your attraction?

I have a long, long list of places I want to visit, but I think I would most like to visit China. Also near the top of the list: India, Peru, Thailand, Palau, Turkey, and too many other places to mention. New Zealand is clost to the top, too, but it’s on my schedule to visit next year.

Ireland, China, and Japan.

Ireland looks beautiful, and thanks to my dad dragging me to just about every movie about Wong Fei Hung that’s come out in fifteen years, I’ve wanted to see China since I was little. Can’t beat Japan for weird t-shirts and cool souvenirs.
Oh, and the cultures. I’ve never been out of the states, so I want to saturate myself in something different.

Russia definitely. Thanks Rodgers01 for the great blog. Cars in pink panties? Maybe some of the eastern republics. I’m just waiting and hoping for the domestic situation to get less treacherous. Cuba, too (good to be a Canuck), and parts of South America. I worked with someone from Chile and she was forever showing me gorgeous photos - now I want to see it for myself. I’d also like to do the Antarctica trip. Pengies!! Then there’s the whole Thailand-Malaysia-Indonesia area but I wish to goodness the techtonic plates would settle down. Oh, mustn’t forget Vietnam and the Philippines. (Note to self: check into a tour). Then there’s Scandinavia. Iceland. Australia and NZ. Yeah, pretty much the rest of the world.

Netherlands. Though my reasons are less than admirable.

It’s mainly because I’ve already been to Vietnam and to Thailand several times (my favourite country) but have never made it to Laos. Or Cambodia for that matter, which would be a close second.

The reason I picked Laos was because of everything I heard about it from other people we met while backpacking in 2005. Less touristy, incredibly friendly people, no hassle, peaceful, etc. They all loved Cambodia too but everyone just seemed entranced with Laos.

Some day I’ll get there.

Italy. We had a trip all planned, a follow-up to a Turkey/Greece adventure two years before and then 9/11 happened. Still waiting for our comfort level to get back before we go.

A back-up would be New Zealand. I spent a couple of hours there on an Australian layover but it was at night. Must see NZ.

The bits of Latin America I haven’t visited yet - Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Bolivia, but also Paraguay, Uruguay, French Guiana and Suriname, so I can tick the rest of 'em off.

If I had to choose from the entire Asian continent I’d prioritise India and Sri Lanka.

I really hope I manage to make it to New Zealand one day.

Some parts of Africa - not sure which though - and I’ve also always liked the sound of Zanzibar and Lamu.

The western US, and western Canada.

Closer to home - the Republic of Ireland. Only ever been to the north.

India - I’ve got family there and have never visited them

Tanzania - I’ve really got to see the Ngorongoro Crater

England. IMO, it is the progenitor of a substantial amount of modern civilization. I’d like to visit it before it’s homogenized out of existence.

Vietnam. Mmmm, all that tasty food, all for me.

Would love to go to Argentina and Panama.

Writerchick, most of the Sevens tickets go to Overseas Clubs; there is only 1 day when they go on sale here and they tend to sell out pretty quick. I’m not sure how you get them overseas but I can find out.

I also have a long list, but, for what seems like forever, the top place has been;

Sri Lanka.
It’s the ultimate in romantic tropical isles (though riddled, for many years, with political strife). It has several things I adore in a destination; tropical, beautiful beaches, spectacular temples and ruins, yummy cuisine, Buddhist culture, enchanting gems, tea. I could go on all day. I highly recommend reading the history of Sri Lanka, it reads like the
Arabian Nights, intrigue, romance, betrayal, all of it true, an outstanding read!
Sri Lanka ::::swoon::::
( Where the people believe their island paradise to be the original Eden!)

The States. More or less anywhere that you can explore on a motorbike. Plenty of second choices too.

Long before I traveled outside the US, I decided that any country beginning with an “I” is worth visiting. Obviously, given current events, Iran and Iraq are not good candidates at the present moment - if we suddenly achieved world peace, though, I’d visit in a flash. Meanwhile, all other “I” countries appeal to me. I’ve been to Indonesia, Italy and India (all magnificent), but that still leaves **Iceland ** and Ireland.

Me, too. I want to do an architectural tour and I want to catch the music scene.

There’s an international Rugby Sevens tournament in San Diego now. It happened just this February at Petco Park downtown. I didn’t end up having the money or the time, but it’s relatively cheap and it may not be highly-acclaimed but a lot of good national teams played there.

Don’t forget Israel! Of course, traveling to Israel isn’t as big a deal from where you live than from where I live. But still.
