What is the difference between Boris Sidis's "hypnoidal" state and hypnosis

Boris Sidis was a famous psychotherapist from the turn of the 20th century who said there was a state called the ‘hypnoidal state’ that allowed you to tap into something called reserve energy. Supposedly tapping into this reserve energy which regenerates mental energy is how he and his family became so accomplished (his son was considered one of the smartest, if not the smartest man to ever live while Boris had multiple doctoral and undergrad degrees. His wife had at least one doctorate, I have no idea what his daughter accomplished and I think he had some success in using this theory to treat nervous disorders). He says the hypnoidal state is a form of resting consciousness from which sleep evolved. However his description of the hypnoidal state here seems to show it being the same thing as hypnosis. Is there any difference between the two? It seems to be the same thing, it is a state of semiconsciousness and suggestibility brought about by trust and monotony. So what is the difference?

He said this in another article

It cannot be insisted too much that the hypnoidal state is not a slight hypnosis. The hypnoidal state is a light sleep state, a twilight state. The hypnoidal state is the anabolic state of repose, characteristic of primitive life.

I still don’t get the difference though. I thought the view on modern hypnosis was that hypnosis was just a state of conscious suggestibility, not a coma like state.

After reading the description, comparing it to hypnosis is kinda out-of-date. This hypnoidal state resembles quite closely the type of conscious meditation taught by José Silva and named “Mind Control.” All the things described by the author occur in Mind Control, and conscious control over autonomic functions and recapturing lost memories are just two of the similarities. The induction technique was very similar, too. José measured brain wave frequencies when people were in meditation, and they were able to maintain consciousness when the brain was generating sleep frequencies.

So I guess it’s like hypnosis without the external suggestability.
