Not the biggest name in Hollywood, I got to know Sandra Oh via Sideways (one of the best movies of 2004 as far as I’m concerned) and now I follow Grey’s anatomy where her character is one of the most interesting.
I can see that she would easily be typecasted as a tongue-in-cheek intelligent cynic with complicated relationships and she pulls that off well. But she has a very impressive presence, it’s like her personality fills up the entire room she’s in.
Still not sure how great she is as an actor, or how versatile she is. Is she up and coming? Or is she just temporarily around?
I like her, and I thought she was the best thing in that movie. That was a role where she went beyond what I expected of her - she was good in Arli$$, but I’m not sure she had to do a lot aside from being a tough professional woman. She seemed to get the part in Grey’s Anatomy on the heels of that success. I don’t know how much bigger she’ll get than she is right now, but she’s been getting steady work for years. I hope she keeps finding good parts.
I liked her in Arliss, but didn’t buy her in Six Feet Under as the hooker friend of another hooker who died. She gave a eulogy. Otherwise I loved Sideways and look for her in other things.
She was a hooker in Runaway. That was a Canadian made for TV movie based on Evelyn Lau’s teenage runaway hooker poet memoir. She was completely convincing in that one! It’s stuck with me for years and years.
I just wish she was hotter. I see all these hot Asians around and the one who actually becomes a fairly famous TV and movie actress turns out to be less than hot. Or do some people think she is good looking?
I think she’s cute, but maybe not supermodel hot, if that’s what you’re saying. She can do sexy pretty well, though, if you ask me, and Sideways clearly demonstrated this. If I weren’t married and had the opportunity, hot dang, I’d be thrilled to date her!
Us girls feel pretty damn bad on that front too. Jet Li and Jackie Chan ain’t exactly good eyecandy. It’s all about Russell Wong and Daniel Henney for me.
Smokin’. I’ve been stalking her ever since Double Happiness.
Seriously, she’s fabulous and I think it’s fantastic that she’s starting to get the limelight she deserves – but she’s always stood out to me as a rare talent.
She can act hot, in addition to being able to act other ways. I thought she was convincingly hot in Sideways. I also think the type of guy who recognizes that Sandra Oh is hot is cool and that she’s a thinking man’s hottie. She’s adorable and talented at more things than putting on gloss.
Sorry for being outrageous, but is it possible to discuss an actress without adressing her level of hotness? I thought this was the right channel for some qualified and non-shallow discussion, though half the replies here speak of the contrary.
Yeah… well… like it or not, a big part of the appeal (and thus, often, the career prospects) of a Hollywood actress is her appearance. This is ESPECIALLY true for someone like Sandra Oh, who has “being sexy” as a large part of her not only her looks but her acting repertoire.
My opinion? She’s hot enough for her “sexy” schtick to be believable and effective, and from everything I’ve seen she’s also very talented at any number of other facets of acting. I don’t necessarily know if she’s “up and coming” - she’s 35, which is a bit older than actresses tend to be up and coming in terms of major lead parts - but she’s certainly someone I’d like to see more of around. I’d love to see her in some “out-there” and generally fun parts, because from what I’ve seen so far I think she could handle it. I’m with Marley23 for the most part: I don’t know if there’s much room for her to get bigger than she is, but I hope to keep seeing her around in the coming years.
