What is the Ipix ActiveX Viewer and why is it on my computer?

This looks suspiciously like spyware (I got one of those windows asking me to install a piece of software. Without checking to see what it was, I clicked the X to close and a new broswer window popped up and said that the software had finished installing. I closed the window before really checking to see what it was that was closed and noticed the Ipix ActiveXviewer in my uninstall programs setting. I have no recollection of installing this and all of the references I can see to this on google are in hijack this running processes for forums on getting rid of spyware (it never seems to be the cause though). Regcleaner, which picks up dozens more programs doesn’t have this listed. AdAware and Pest Patrol don’t turn up anything…

Two Ipix links I found were the company’s home page (I don’t have any need for 360* images, unless it installed as part of Quicktime) and a site that ominously only had links to install the viewer (and a lot of popups).

Can I safely uninstall this?

We have used it recently for virtual tours of apartments in preparation for relocating. I expect if you delete it and run into a situation where you need to view 3D content, you would be able to download it at that time.

However, it has been on our system for years and has been fairly benign as far as I can tell. I wouldn’t delete it unless hard drive space was an issue.

In other words, neither keeping it nor deleting it will likely cause any serious issues. Do whatever you feel like doing.
