What is the LD50 of paracetamol?

I’m just curious because one of my suicidal friends ingested 36 (500mg) tablets a week and a half ago and he felt incredible abdominal pain but then it stopped and now he feels fine.

Is he going to be okay or is does it take weeks to die from this. He’s very adamant about not going to the hospital but fankly IMO he’s a sane adult who can make the decision of whether to end his life or not.

From the flowchart on this page, >150mg per Kg is an overdose, but this can vary considerably if the ‘patient’ is taking other medication or alcohol.

It can cause fatal liver damage, which is a slow, painful death. it may take 3-5 days for hepatic necrosis to set in.

Where would he feel the most pain?

Upper right quadrant. If the kidneys fail, there, too. If sepsis, anywhere.

Does he ride the bus?

Its unlikely to have killed many cells in the vital organs…

He’d have noticed the symptom of death by now if it had been toxic.

Well, sometimes you can be slow to notice the symptoms of death. If you’re outside on a cold day and you notice your core temperature has fallen to 25F and you’re not shivering, that’s usually a reliable indicator.
