Its a rather weird question out of left field, but its driving me bonkers.
What is the official length of the lettering on the back of baseball uniforms?

What makes you think there is an official length? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Some teams (the Yankees I think) don’t have players’ names so there “official” length is no letters. I suspect they’d put on as long a last name as they could. If some guy’s name wouldn’t fit without going down the arms, I’d think they’d use an abbreviation. I’m sure the fans woudl probably have a nick-name for the man.
Up and down not width.
From the Official Rules of Major League Baseball, section 1.11 :
So the numbers have to be at least six inches high; the player name may or may not be on the uniform (as long as it’s present or absent for all players on a team), but there’s no stipulation about the size of the lettering for the name.
Thanks, thats what I kept finding. I thought there was a standard.
