What is the most entertaining movie you've ever seen?

Seeing a sneak preview of The Crow. The person I went with knew someone connected to the movie, and when we got to the theater, the line to get in stretched clear to Terre Haute. But we walked right up to the front and they pulled the rope aside for us. VIPs!

Plus they had the volume cranked forn the movie, and it was the most amazing film I’d seen.

I’m glad they never destroyed it after Brandon Lee was killed,

Definitely Monty Python and the Holy Grail for me. I had seen And Now for Something Completely Different, a collection of their TV skits, at my college theater in early 1975, and enjoyed it. So when I saw that a movie called Monty Python and the Holy Grail was in the theaters near home that June, I was game to give it a try.

And that was easily the most amazing experience I’ve ever had watching a movie. From the møøse credits on, it was hilarious in improbable and off-the-wall ways. African and European swallows! Watery tarts and moistened bints! “All right, we’ll call it a draw.” “Bring out your dead!” “She turned me into a newt!” (pause) “Got better.” “On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot. Silly place.” The French taunters, brave Sir Robin, the Castle Anthrax, the Knights of Ni, the killer rabbit, the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, the Black Beast of Aaaargh…if there’s ever been another movie that had this level of amazeballs, I’ve never seen it.

I was already a confirmed Marx Brothers fan at that point, but Holy Grail blew past the best of their work.

Leaving comedies aside: Entertaining movies because of “stand up and cheer” moments:

Apollo 13: “If they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it.”

Casablanca: “La Marseillaise”.

And MANY other moments in both movies.

This just popped up on my Pocket feed.
A must-read for this thread.

There’s a ton of movies listed above that I have to agree with but for me ones that I found the most entertaining are Dark City, After Hours, Withnail and I, Cable Guy, and Blades of Glory.

A lot of very entertaining movies – and most of my favorites – have already been mentioned. One that hasn’t been is Deadpool. It’s way more fun than a sandpaper dildo.

Campers witness a human sacrifice and get chased by devil worshippers and some really cool stunts…count me in!

A lot of great, fun movies here - but the one that first came to mind for me was The Emperor’s New Groove. I consider that to be one of the top five funniest movies ever made. If you haven’t seen it, you should.

From the trailer, I did not want to see it at all…and you’re right, I’d put it in the top funniest movies ever made. Love it!

The Matrix

Yeah, I could say Star Wars, which I’ve rewatched a bit more, but I think that could be tainted by nostalgia. The Matrix was the first and only movie I’ve seen as an adult that truly blew me away. It is, in my opinion, a near perfect standalone movie (I wish the sequels never happened).

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned The Sixth Sense. Plenty of scares, real emotional pull that’s rare for a horror movie, and the mother of all plot twists.

I will probably track down Sky High. I never heard of that movie, but will go with the SD’s recommendations.

I don’t disagree with any of the movies I do recognize. They are all great. I am surprised how many there are.

Another movie remembered because someone mentioned showing movies to their kids - and that was the Original Pink Panther movies. I loved those, but when trying to show my kids as a treat for them, couldn’t get them past 5 minutes - too slow-paced for them.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Perhaps the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. The plot is mostly mindless but who cares when every scene is a gorgeous riot of color? Besides it has space ships, talking animals, ray blasters… and Cara Delevingne. And more aliens than humans. And did I mention the VFX is just astounding?

Valerian raised the bar for mindless entertainment several notches.

I rewatched Braveheart the other day. I know it’s about as historically accurate as George Washington fighting Hitler with a minigun, but it’s damn entertaining.

Really if you like that, I would say watch The Fifth Element (also directed by Luc Besson). Similar gonzo sci-fi themes and visuals, but far more entertaining IMHO.

Frequency. One the best “feel good” movies ever, IMHO.

Outside the plot twist it’s a B- movie.

Another movie that comes to mind is Babe. It was way better than I was expecting when I was roped into watching it.

Thanks, I will surely watch it soon; I am on a binge these days.

If ye can handle a lot of gore, I highly recommend Apocalypto directed by Mel Gibson.

I think Edge of Tomorrow / Live:Die:Repeat is one of the most entertaining action films I’ve seen in a long time. Went to see it not expecting much as Tom Cruise had made a lot of real stinkers at that point. Ended up being Aliens vs. Groundhog Day! Really terrific film.

Also really enjoyed Parasite. Find a lot of Oscar-winning films tend to be deadly serious and heavy-going. This was great though! Genuinely never knew what was going to happen next.
