What is the most entertaining movie you've ever seen?

“RED” without a doubt. During my life, I’ve gone from one “favorite movie” to another as each one inevitably ran its course, but “RED” is different. It simply has to be declared my favorite of all time for many reasons, the OP’s being among them.

Yeah, Apocalypto hooks you for sure. I think it’s subtitled, but I honestly didn’t notice after the first few minutes.

Ah damn, I forgot about that one. That must mean its not on my best list. But its a very fun movie and one I’ll happily rewatch if a friend comes over that hasn’t seen it.

Another movie that I really enjoy even if it ain’t Shakespeare is Eagle Eye, another fun one.

I love The Fifth Element and have seen it multiple times. For that reason, I went to see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets at the theater opening weekend, hoping it would be as much fun and as good. Sadly, I was disappointed. So I hope you like The Fifth Element.

Ahem … the OP is not “What do you think of other people’s nominees for most entertaining movies?” And I should know.

First thing I thought of was Galaxy Quest, with the caveat that some movies that haven’t aged well or that don’t hold up to adult scrutiny, like Star Wars or Animal House, may have given my adolescent self equal joy.

For me, it was Independence Day and Godzilla. I was a kid at the time, and I didn’t care about flaws like laughable storytelling or cliches, I just loved the fighter jets and Apaches clashing with aliens and mutant lizards. Big explosions were just what I needed.

There are quite a few movies already mentioned that I find very entertaining - “Airplane”, “Raising Arizona”, “Pulp Fiction”, “Star Wars”, “Guardians of the Galaxy” - but the most entertaining for me was “A Midwinter’s Tale”. It’s the combination of movie and
first-time-watching experience that puts it on top. I love the movie and I first saw it in a tiny little theater (upstairs at the Inwood for any Dallas-area readers) with an audience that was just as into the movie as I was. I’ve seen funnier things in a movie, but thanks to the audience I was with at the time, I’ve never laughed harder than I did when Molly got pulled off the stage.

I cannot praise this overlooked gem enough. A solid choice.

Agree with quite a few here. A few more that I love:
Goodfellas
True Romance
Midnight Run
Bottle Rocket
Amores Perros
The Game
Life Is Beautiful

For pure entertainment value, I ditto Guardians of the Galaxy, There’s Something About Mary, The Incredibles, and Deadpool (plus almost anything by Tarantino).

I’d also like to add How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (the 1967 film with Robert Morse). It may not be for all tastes, but I find it highly entertaining.

Also: Defending Your Life (a bit slow at times, but overall, a gem of an entertaining, very re-watchable film).

When I was in the hospital recovering from major surgery, my nurse suggested I turn on the TV, as there was a “really good movie” on. I did, and watched about 2/3rds of it before falling asleep, possibly from post-surgery exhaustion. Later, my nurse came in and he asked me what I thought of it. I told him that someone once said, “The worst thing a movie can be is boring.” Going by that standard, the movie was very good.

The movie was, “Cats.” Maybe it was the drugs, but the sheer WTF I felt with every passing moment was very entertaining, for certain uses of the word. Jesus, that was. . . something, certainly. I’ve seen Youtube videos of pets riding home from surgery with slack-jawed looks of amazement on their faces. I’m pretty sure I now know how they felt.

In retrospect, I’m not entirely sure that what I was seeing corresponded with what they filmed. I don’t know if I should hope it was, or it wasn’t. Maybe it was the drugs.

I fell in love with the stage show of How To Succeed first, so the movie didn’t do as much for me. I’ll sit and watch it with you though.

Re Cats: it was the drugs.

Cool. Was that the 1995 revival of How to Succeed?

 Actually it was a community theatre production, but the talent was amazing! When we went to New York, I didn’t want to see How To Succeed on Broadway, because I didn’t think they’d do any better.

I don’t understand why Bottle Rocket doesn’t have the same kind of cult following as the Big Lebowski or Pulp Fiction. It’s an excellent film. Loads of great lines in it and a top soundtrack as well

I agree, and it’s been my favorite movie for a while. I love the simplicity combined with the clever humor.

Thor Ragnarok is the definitely up there, incredibly entertaining and funny, but still a good action movie. Miles ahead of any of the other MCU movies.

Also a good chunk of my top ten most entertaining movies is made up of Robert Rodriguez movies (Desparado, Dusk Til Dawn, Planet Terror, Sin City). He’s the master at actually making an action movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is genuinely entertaining (as opposed to most action movies which claim to do that but are typically just boring uninspiring movies sprinkled with over-produced action scenes).

What!? Am I missing a sarcasm symbol here? Apocalypto is a good movie but the complete opposite of what I’d consider entertainment.
