What is the most entertaining movie you've ever seen?

Its entertaining in the sense of nonstop action and the fact that you dont even need to read the cc dialog to understand the story. My cousin refused watch it at first because he thought he had to read the dialog to follow the story. Once he stopped trying he was in a trace. Its primal.

The Commitments. Pure entertainment.

Nice list. Assuming I didn’t count any twice, I’ve seen 42 of them (plus bits of a couple others). I agree with most of them.

An Inspector Calls

Nice? I now have two dozen new movies I have to watch…

When am I going to find the time? Did any of you think about what you’re doing to a guy with a To Be Watched list that’s already a 100+ hour commitment? Who here’s going to explain to the wife why I’m not taking her to dinner or going to church or why I can’t finish replacing the front door?

She may not be on board with that gaping hole facing the street…

IMDB lists several different movies for this title.

This is objectively incorrect.

Lots of good ones here, but one that is missing is Hot Fuzz. A lot of people think that Shawn of the Dead is the best, and while it’s also a fun film, IMNSHO Hot Fuzz exceeds it quite handily.

Tarkovsky’s “The Stalker”. :slightly_smiling_face:

I was counting them up just now, and while I can’t swear I didn’t do any double counts, I think just over 200 separate movie titles have been mentioned in this thread. I’ve seen just over 60 of them, and I’m looking forward to watching some of the ones I’ve missed so far.

Your Name (君の名は。Kimi no na wa) hasn’t been mentioned yet.

(This the anime, don’t confuse it with Call Me by Your Name, with Timothée Chalamet).

It’s the second highest grossing movie ever in Japan, behind Spirited Away.

It simply blew me away the first time I saw it, and I immediately had to go back and watch it right from the beginning again.

If you haven’t seen it, there’s a major unexpected plot twist about halfway through, so watch out for spoilers… and after that, what seemed like a simple, standard plot suddenly becomes complex and deeply emotionally gripping.

When you get to the end, you have to start thinking about what exactly happened, and why.

It’s visually stunning as well.

Silver Streak

Laugh out loud funny in places, a bit of a thriller, a little violence, PATRICK MCGOOHAN, it was photographed really well. Wonderful cast.

I was really into disaster films at the time and for the last quarter of the movie I kept thinking they’re not really going to run that train through the… They sure the hell are!

Plus, I was 16; things were a lot more fun then.

Probably Road Warrior.

Das Boot

I guess I should admit to myself I’ve always had a weakness for submarine movies.
Three quarters of the way through the movie, the sub is stranded at the bottom of the sea, and their oxygen is running out, and my date looked at me, then leaned over and said “it’s okay, you can breathe. There’s plenty of air here in the theater.”

If concert movies are allowed, I’ll add The Last Waltz, featuring the Band and a laundry list of guest musicians.

And hey, howsabout A Hard Day’s Night? Yeah, that should be mentioned.

Another I’ve not seen mentioned: Tootsie. And American Grafitti.

mmm

Crank duology.

In recent memory, Die Hard. I’d never seen it, and a few months ago I got the DVD from the library just to see Alan Rickman’s first major role. I rarely see action movies, so I was really surprised that I liked a lot.

Some others:

Dr. Strangelove
Star Wars
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Airplane!

About 20 years ago I was flipping channels and happened on Spaced Invaders; guess I was just the right amount drunk or something, I laughed harder than any other time in my life.
Weird thing - it really is not what I normally consider funny.

Die hard, I watched it at home with my dad as I was too young to see it in the cinema. I was blown away at how good it was. A lot of it seems cheesy now but at the time it felt ground breaking.
Mad Max fury road. It is is absolute mayhem from start to finish in a very good way.
Crimson Tide. Now there are better submarine movies out there but this just hooked me. I was a smoker at the time and this was the first time in the cinema that I didn’t think about cigarettes once I was just to engrossed.

That’s on my top ten list. The action is great but the storytelling is flawless, an impressive feat with so little dialog.
