My laptop is the most expensive thing I own. A distant second would be my glasses.
My engagement ring. Even our bedroom set (the whole set) isn’t more than my ring. I love the ring. It’s classic.
Our daughter’s insulin pump. Best $6,000 ever spent. Yes, it doesn’t exactly belong to us: but she’s 10, so…
After that, our computers.
My grandmother’s little walnut Art Deco dining room suite, from the 1930’s. It was estimated to be worth $8,000 about 10 years ago and if there was any justice in this world, it would be worth a whole lot more by now. I doubt it!.. Wish I could take it to Antiques Roadshow and be happily flabbergasted that it HAS risen in value!
My college diploma, if that counts, by a huge margin, followed by my violin, then my laptop.
Refrigerator: $7500
Gas Range: $7000
My Canon XH-A1 high definition 3-chip video camera at $3000. It kicks ass and produces an astonishing picture. If I were any good at marketing myself, I could make a lot with it, but I wind up just shooting friends, relatives and bands I like.
My violin, I think. Don’t remember exactly how much it was (I was about 13 or so when I got it), but it’s up there. It’s a nice instrument. I don’t play it much anymore, but I can’t bring myself to sell it.
My e ring was about 15k and my wedding band 5k and my earrings are 5k. My Balenciaga bag collection, I think I have 6 of them. The jewelry is from the same collection by Michael B in pave diamond and platinum. I’m going to pass it to my daughter. Probably next thing would be my 63 inch plasma tv but I don’t remember how much it cost.
I don’t think that counts. I mean, you can’t sell it. Points for lateral thinking though.
Hmm, I would say my jaw - over $6k in orthodontic treatments over the past 12 years - but RNATB would say no cuz I can’t sell it
My one computer I’ve put maybe $600 in to over the past 10 years, but I built it myself and just keep replacing parts so it was never a single purchase. Probably couldn’t sell it for more than $200.
Do household items like appliances count? My central air conditioner was expensive. When I buy a new fridge (the existing one was free), that’ll be the most expensive thing I’ve bought that is not a permanent fixture.
If appliances or household mechanics don’t count, then honestly the most expensive single item I’ve ever bought was my iPod Mini in 2005, which was $249.
My Yamaha Disklavier grand piano, for which I paid about $30,000 back in 2000. A nice gift I gave myself out of a little windfall.
(If I had bought a piano worthy of my skill as a musician, I would have gotten this one.)
I afraid the most expensive item I ever owe is my custom built PC which cost me about SGD 1.5K
Darn, I feel poor.
I was thinking and thinking then remembered we have a backhoe. It’s worth about $10 grand.
Hey, don’t knock toy pianos. In the right hands, it’s a wonderful instrument.
Me, too. Love it. I suppose I could say my college diploma, but I figure the computer would fetch more at a pawn shop.
Collectively: the books. Individual item: my Canon EOS 450D Digital Single Lens Reflex camera with 18-200 mm Tamron lens. I paid something like 600 euros for that, excluding accessories. The laptop I’m typing on now is a good second, at around 450 euros. Everything else I own is dirt and dirt cheap
Make me feel even more inadequate, why don’t you? Thanks a lot!

Nothing too fancy in our house or safe deposit box, just a few designer pieces of furniture by eames, noguchi and nelson as well as a few FLW custom knockoffs. The Eames chairs are made from rosewood so that ups their value a bit.
You know, except for my house and car, I own nothing of significant value.
I can think of a few things I’ve paid a lot for, but none would be worth that NOW. My computer cost $1400 but it’s worth half that now; our kind sized bed was a couple of grand but I don’t think you can sell a used bed for much. None of our furniture was worth more than the computer and it’s all used. I own no antiques or collectibles of significance.
My wife’s engagement ring is presumably worth about the same as I paid for it but that’s specifically hers, not mine.
