I have been surprised by the number of attractive and educated women I have known who told me that they dreamt of being “James Bond girls”. Guess I need to invest in cooler cars and offbeat gadgets.
Wouldn’t it be better, if insisting on outdated tropes, to be a Charlie’s Angel? Yes, there is the patriarchy. But cool costume. Striking poses. Better chance of survival.
But are they saying they would like to be the fictional characters that are Bond girls, or are they saying they would like to be the model/actresses that play Bond girls? The latter makes one an “It Girl” for a brief but fashionable moment and can be parlayed into a career.
The Castro District in San Francisco. Seriously. There’s a hardware/toy store no woman would be interested in. No women’s clothing, shoe, or jewelry stores. And bars! Lots and lots of bars
I’m guessing you’ve never actually been to Castro Street? There’s a ton of stores on Castro Street that sell women’s clothing, shoes, and jewelry. Often to women.
The idea that you won’t find any women at Cliff’s is similarly ridiculous. It’s literally owned by two women.
The immediate next door neighbor to the Castro theater is a nail salon, and has been since 2004.
Sorry, I don’t mean to give you a hard time, I just kind of find it hilarious that you think the place in the US most closely associated with gay culture wouldn’t have a ton of shops that sell women’s clothing and accessories in it.
Bond girls tend to be smart, stylish, sexy and strong. Some have skills. I do not know if that makes up for having a corny name. But in consideration the women are not mere props and I assume they had the former things in mind. The women who said they had these aspirations were often professionally successful. If they had dreams of being an actress they did not tell me.
The President looks out a window in the White House and sees written in the snow, “FUCK NIXON”. He orders the Secret Service to investigate. They report back in a few hours and remark, “We have good news and bad news. It’s Kissinger’s piss all right. But it’s Pat’s handwriting.”
I could be wrong, but I thought Viagra was being tested for blood pressure or similar alternate use and a “side effect” was discovered. I don’t disagree with you about the marketing aspect.
