What is the name of this half-remembered fantasy novel?

The main character is a sex-slave girl, bought by a super decadent rich person. By the end of the book she has risen to a powerful position, maybe high priestess of something, and is very popular with the city’s people. That is about all I remember.

I think the name of the book is her first name, maybe.

I know it is not much to go on but perhaps someone here can tell me the title.

Sounds not unlike Danerys Targaryen’s story line in Game of Thrones.

But that can’t be what you’re thinking of. Carry on…

Maia, by Richard Adams?

The Kushiel’s Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey?

This was my guess as well.

Second this.

Maia is it, thank you!

You’re welcome.

A helluva book, completely different from the author’s other most famous works, Watership Down, Shardik, and The Plague Dogs. Filled with sex, dom/sub stuff, politics, religion, sex, ancient cultures, supernatural thrills, and a bulemia/obesity fetish.

A lot of sex in it, too.

You said sex twice.

5 whole minutes to answer the question. What is it, all you guys do is read books or something?:wink:

HOW did I miss this during my teens?

I think my hubby has that on a shelf in the other room… hmmm

I like sex.

Hope you still have your copy of it. Amazon wants $600 for the paperback.

Flashing on Robert Anton Wilson’s Schrodinger’s Cat trilogy – which most adults would not leave within reach of children, but, in at least one of the volumes, the names of 1970s figures opposed to pornography have become sexual terms, e.g., “Lourd my Rhenquist!”

We do! And in good condition too

** The Girl on a Swing ** had its quota of sex and supernaturality . Set in modern day England.

I was going to mention that one, too.
