This is kind of hard because, well, I can’t sing it to you, but here goes:
It’s a song that typically features a trombone and is often featured in kid’s music.
it goes something like this:
na na na, na na na, na na na na
naaaaaaaaaa-aaa (trombone part)
naaaaaaaaaaa-aaa(trombone part)
it’s kind of like the trombone is ‘racing’ or dueling. It’s a fast paced song.
The movie this was most famously (and quite humorously) used in was Billy Wilder’s indispensable One Two Three with Jimmy Cagney.
And “Sabre Dance” is from A.K.'s Gayaneh ballet, which also contributed a very different, more mournful and heart-breaking piece to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Well, apparently during my husband’s childhood, there were some sock puppets on PBS (KERA) that used that song. Everytime he hears it, he mentions them, followed by how he can’t recall their name. He can only recall one white sock and one black one.
We hear the song a LOT because one of our daughter’s toys has that as a song, so I hear about the stupid socks a LOT!
Anyhow, I’ve bet him a foot rub that I would be able to find out the name of the puppets or a picture or something…
