What is the name of this type of puzzle?

I enjoy this sort of logic puzzle:

Three families with different surnames live on adjacent houses and each have a different pet.
The Green family have a dog.
The family that live in the middle house are not called Brown…

… and so on.

  1. Is there a name for this type of puzzle?
  2. Anyone know of a book collection of such puzzles?

Thanks!

You’ve answered your own question.

Thank you!

I’m not a member, but this site purports itself to be the world’s largest web site devoted to logic puzzles

Penny Press has a lot of printed volumes with titles like England’s Best Logic Puzzles

I only remember them ever being called “logic puzzles” or “loigic problems” when I’ve seen them in puzzle magazines. But of course they’re a specific type of logic puzzle.

There are many magazines full of them, and The USA Today even had a book of them. I think my supermarket has some in the magazine section and you can usually find them at airport newstands.

Thanks to the Dope I’ve been able to order a collection of logic grid puzzles from t’Internet. :sunglasses:

In Croatia, this type of logic puzzle is called “integram” for some reason. They come with a hepful matrix grid.

I like those too. I used to buy the puzzle books and solve…well, most of them.

Lots of free game apps with them also, most with ads of course.

There was an old DOS game called Sherlock that was these. Apparently there’s an app version of it, now, too (search for “Everet Kaser Sherlock”).

That game looks interesting but sadly:

  • it’s from 1991
  • they charge $15.99 for it

Anyway I have already received two books-worth of logic grid puzzles, so I’m happy. :grinning:
