What is the Net Worth of an Artist?

You can google pretty much any artist and get a number indicating their net worth.

How accurate is that number and what does it means.

Obviously, for a singer for example, it is based on record sales, concerts and other engagements.

What else might be considered.

What about actors and others.

Without knowing the details of their contracts and how the money is split, this doesn’t really tell you much about their income, let alone their net worth.

In most cases they just ask the artist’s publicist. Failing that, journalists trained in that sort of thing will look at publicly available records for real estate, mortgages, credit ratings, performance contracts, etc. In addition, the entertainment business is full of blabbermouths.

Wildly variable. I recall reading one prominent person noting that their net worth on one of those sites seems to have been calculated by more or less tallying up every bit of publicly accessible income they had ever earned. While the tally was sorta accurate in of itself it said pretty much zero about what that person was actually worth in the moment.

I think in general those net worth sites are at there very, very best only good at best of roughly parsing whether someone is not very wealthy, moderately wealthy, kind wealthy, really wealthy or super-wealthy. The exact number is going to often be wrong, sometimes very wrong.

And that’s the very best case scenario. In some cases it might err by an order of magnitude or more.
