What is the oldest computer game that you still play?

I’ve recently dusted off Emperor:Rise of the Middle Kingdom and I’m loving it. I’m a sucker for a city builder, but I find the more recent versions (like Sim City) are “open play” without specific objectives to meet.

Anyone else still play older computer games? Whatcha playing?

I still play MS Freecell regularly

Didn’t we just have this thread? Anyway I’m playing Frontier Elite 2
Found it, although I don;t have permission to access the page for some reason - What old game are you currently playing?

I find that I can’t play Emperor: RotMK for long because my OCD kicks in. Gotta have the city in Perfect Harmony! I do also play the earlier games in the series: Zeus, Pharoah, and Caesar III.

I get this message when I click on your link:

Any ideas? I did do a search for “old game” and only a very old thread came up in the search results. I’m happy to report my thread and get it merged, but want to check that others can actually click that link and see the thread before I merge mine with it!

Heheh, I’m exactly the same! I’m doing the first scenario in the last campaign, and I’ve got a huuuuge map to play with and lots of resources. My farms have to be symmetrical or I just can’t cope. Can you give me any tips on overcoming other cities?

I play Rodent’s Revenge (1991) sporadically. Someday I will get through level 17.

I still play Rome: Total War every now and then. From what I’ve seen, the new version isn’t much better than the old one.

I get the same message. It seems the OP of that thread was banned, but that doesn’t usually get threads shut down, so I don’t know what the deal is.

Probably wasn’t labeled properly.

snerk

I still regularly play an un-modded version of Star Trek: Birth of the Federation from 1999. It is one of the few old, non-Steam games I have that still works on WIN7. I would rotate through my old library, but most of the games don’t work.

Not sure if it counts, but I still play a MUD that’s been around since 1991.

Wow, there’s a trip down memory lane. i used to play a MuD, I think it was based on Moiria (sp?) but was actually called something else. I’d love to download it and play it again!

I don’t play it regularly, but I have the “Lost Treasures of Infocom” boxed set (which includes the original Zork game, among many others) and every once in a while I’ll fire up DOSBox and try to play through one of them. This could probably also go in the “games I’ve never finished” thread since I don’t think I’ve ever gotten all the way through any of them.

The Uninvited, 1986.

(when I have some time to kill)

Berserk, thanks to the MAME emulator-1980.

Ooh, that reminds me. I have the same CD, but I long ago copied the game files off the disc to my hard drive. Much more convenient to use a Z-machine emulator such as WinFrotz.

I pop onto Everquest sometimes which launched in 1999 but I don’t know if that “counts” given that it’s been patched and expanded numerous times since then.

Everything else that I could honestly answer with is from the 2000’s. Once upon a time I’d go back and revisit Civilization II or old Gold Box SSI games but these days I have too much ‘new’ stuff to play.

The oldest game I play with any regularity is Civilization IV (2005).
