The Tea-Party people are trying to be what Republicans *used *to pretend to be: fiscal conservatives. There is currently no home for believers in limited government.
Fiscal conservative != believer in limited government. Fiscal conservatives, as such, are hostile only to deficit spending, not necessarily to big government or high taxes.
What do you mean though? My impression is there has been push back from progressives against some of the ‘all or nothing’ thinking.
I support medicare for all. If I can’t get that, I’d support a public option. If I can’t get that I’m disappointed, but I’m not going to throw out health reform (especially reform that’ll cut the deficit by 1 trillion over 20 years, end pre-existing condition bans, combat rescissions, etc) just because I didn’t get the public option.
There is a pretty strong battle in the progressive movement with the ‘just pass the imperfect bill, it is better than nothing’ side winning over the firedoglake and Kucinich branch.
I agree that they are not identical, but many folks (including most tea-baggers, IMHO) believe in both.
Got your ideological blinders on, there. Of course to every idealogue, your folks’s loonies look pretty sane.
:dubious: I have never, ever before, here or anywhere else, not even on Free Republic, seen anyone characterize the NAACP even by implication as “loony”.
Yeah, but those who want to reduce spending and cut taxes insist the tax cuts must come first. There are like children who want their dessert before they eat their vegetables. So-called fiscal conservatives have done this every time they have been in power; they pass tax cuts, but never seem to get around to spending cuts, so the deficit balloons.
What passes for fiscal conservatism these days is better described as Dine & Dash conservatism. They want their tax cuts, but lack the political will and accountability to make the spending cuts they claim are necessary, and end up leaving the check on the table for their children to pay.
Too bad the voters have such short memories.

Get your numbers straight. The baby boom was from 1946 to 1964. That means that baby boomers are now 45 to 64 years old. Most of the tea party people are too old to be baby boomers. Most baby boomers are still working and only beginning to think about retirement. A lot of them have living parents who are retired. They aren’t going to retire until they feel that they will have enough money, and some of them are worried if they will ever have enough money. Try to work with real statistics about the baby boomers (or any other group) and not silly stereotypes.
I am delighted there are some progressives who realize that meaningful reform will only come incrementally…and I certainly did not mean to imply that ALL liberal/progressives are refusing to see the folly of the “all or nothing” mentality. I’ve just transferred over from another forum in which the so-called liberal/progressive element was almost entirely dominated by the “all or nothingers”…and spoke from that perspective. My bad!
In any case, there still is way too much “liberal/progressive” grousing…and it has been hurting Obama’s attempts to get as much as possible out of a political climate from hell almost as much as conservative stonewalling. In my opinion, it is something that everyone who sees the needs for more progressive initiatives has to counteract wherever possible.
There’s probably also pushback against the neocons - conservatives who gave lip service to issues like abortion and illegal immigration, but did nothing about them, all while running up huge deficits.
Google The Political Cesspool and listen, America’s only true southern real conservative show. FYI The NAACP was founded by Stalinist Jews for the purpose of destroying the white majority.
No, not it wasn’t. it was founded in part by Jews interested in social justice who wanted to make sure that centuries of racism would be overturned and blacks would finally get a fair deal. None of them were Stalinists let alone Stalinists aiming at destroying the white majority (whatever that nonsense means). You might also remember that the vast majority of Jews are white.
FFS, did we crack the seal on some dark Pandora’s Box recently or something?
Then you should put the blame where it belongs, on the Obama administration. They spend a lot of time being polite to conservative Dems and Republicans, and then turn around and call progressives and liberals nasty names and ridicule them (not Obama himself, but various other players in the administration).
They could immensely help to blunt liberal or progressive criticism by playing nice with the liberals and progressives, but they refuse to do that. And that doesn’t mean giving liberals or progressives everything they want. It simply means that they should act like they take liberal or progressive concerns as seriously as they take conservative Dem or Republican concerns, and they should certainly stop being overtly hostile to liberals and progressives.
OK,
“Stormfront Radio, a service of the white …” the white what?
“… Stormfront Radio, a service of the white nationalist and supremacist website Stormfront.org. …”
Yeah, I’ll be sure to give that all the listening attention it deserves! :dubious:
CMC fnord!
Hey, if you can’t trust St-rmfr*nt for the straight dope on Jewish Scheming, who can you trust?
I think Icerigger whooshed you but good, Finn. He’s been around a long time and I don’t remember him every sincerely espousing that kind of opinion. I’m guessing he was being sarcastic.
Could be. Wouldn’t be the first time I was whooshed.
Obama?
Hitler I mean Hitler!
FUCK, I always screw-up the punchline. :smack:
CMC fnord!
You know who else always screwed-up the punchline … Hitler, always had trouble with the ladle.
I thought that was Autolycus.
Sometimes the fox doesn’t look like he wants to get at the rabbit; sometimes the fox doesn’t even look like he notices the rabbit; and sometimes the fox seems to be heading away from the rabbit.
But, BightNShiny…the fox always wants to get at the rabbit; and the fox always notices the rabbit; and the fox is heading toward the rabbit even when he seems to be walking away.
Ya know what I mean?
