Been there, sung that!
I can hear it my head… no really… it’s just the other voices in there won’t be quiet long enough for me to pin it down.
Actually I think it’s something by Marc Cohn, the guy who had the hit Walking in Memphis 'bout 10 years ago. He’s got a soulful classic rock-y sort of voice, and he stuck “Oh what a beautiful morning…” at the end of a song.
I don’t own any albums, so that’s about as much help as I can offer. (Maybe Silver Thunderbird?)
I didn’t know Daniel Boone was also a vocalist.
In any case I think this is the right song. I’ll have to investigate further…
Oh, and you might have more luck if you had the thread moved to Cafe Society.
Found this thread when searching for “what was that song”? identification threads on the Dope. I normally hate zombie threads but I have to bump this one because I happen to know the answer and it was never answered. I can’t believe nobody nailed this one.
The answer is, of course, Montego Bay by the late, great Bobby Bloom.
A few months after this question was asked I heard Montego Bay, and recognized that it was the answer. However, by then the questioner had been banned, so I didn’t bother to reply, but have wondered all these years if maybe I should have. I will now journey to the Island of Lost Opportunities…
Because the chorus had to stand in front of the (loaded) canons, that’s why.
Does anyone other than me remember Quaker Puffed Rice using the canon portion as a part of their commercial? I remember it being on the radio; I gave up on kid’s shows by the time TV was generally available.
I hate goddamn Zombie threads; they oughtn’t to be allowed because they reveal how stupid I am.
Oh what a beautiful zombie,
oh what a beautiful day,
I’ve got a wonderful feeling,
brains will be coming my way.
Why would the presence of inebriated clergymen preclude the performance of the chorus? I would think they might be a particularly appreciative audience.
Also, this is better suited to Cafe Society than GQ.

I was looking for the same answer, and came across this in a Google search… then I discovered that the correct answer is Montego Bay- Bobby Bloom- 1970… which a previous poster mentioned the name but it did not catch my eye, so I thought I would see if there was a prize for answering this question 13 years late…
I know this is a zombie, but that Myrbetriq commercial with the 1812 overture always reminds me of that old Quaker cereal commercial.
The one and only cereal that’s shot from guns!
The one and only cereal that’s shot from guns!
yes, this^
Oh man got zombied, that will teach me!
Cereal killer.
And wrong, as it turns out.
Maybe the zombie-banned OP heard Van Halen live somewhere. David Lee Roth was always doing little nonsense improvs on stage. Scat even. (No, not poop)
No cites, just fuzzy 80s memories
I’m really sorry to be 13 years late with this, and I see that the OP was banned, but the answer is Bobby Bloom’sMontego Bay from 1970.
It’s an especially hard question because most radio stations chopped the final bit out when they played the song.
