What is the status of Kuwait vis a vis the US?

I haven’t heard anything about Kuwait in a long time.
Is it considered a stable area, or do they have daily suicide bombings?
Is the US presence high or low? Do we have aircraft and ships stationed there? Running operations from there over Iraq?
Is the goverment considered a democracy or ruled by a single hereditary family group, like Saudi Arabia and Jordan?

Kuwait is very stable overall. There have been very few terrorist attacks. The US does have a sizeable presence of about 2000 soldiers at Camp Doha which performs a lot of logistics functions for military operations in the Middle East.

The Kuwaitis have a fairly strong monarchy (an emirate) but they also have a parliament, although not everyone is allowed to vote. The monarchy tends to be more secular and less religiously nutso than their counterparts in Saudi Arabia.

What about along its border with Iraq?

Kuwaiti women just got the vote this year!

I spent 4 months in Kuwait during the changeover from OIF 1 to OIF 2. I worked at the port of Ash Shuaiba during that time, and did lots of cargo stuff.

Kuwaitis in general are very friendly to Americans. I got more than one thumbs up signal while on the roads, and nothing that could be viewed as threatening. The most dangerous security violation: we’d occasionally get harrasing gunfire at the front gate. Usually one guy, usually too far away to hit anything. These were quite rare. On the roads - no IEDs, no problems. Kuwaitis still view us as a positive force after we kicked Saddam out of there, and I don’t think that’s going away anytime soon.

It is hot there, though.

Oh - and about the border with Iraq - There isn’t much there. Most of the settled portions of Kuwait lie on the gulf. There are several cities inland, but the border with Iraq is mostly desert, and there’s not much there.
