I just heard the last part of it on an ad on a radio station but didn’t get the whole thing. What’s up with it?
I’m not sure. There was some kind of deal between Gore and Russian preident Putin that fell apart, but I don’t know what it was about because I’m tring my best to avoid all of the election-related crap. The only other “Russian scandal” I’ve heard of involved Bill Clinton. When he was a student, he spent several months (maybe a full year) in communist eastern Europe, and he’s never publically explained what he did during all that time. Probably immersing himself in socialist doctrine.
Gore was one of the senators who sponsored The Iran-Iraq Arms non-proliferation Act in 1992. Russia is apparently in violation of the act because it has been selling arms to Iran. If I understand the law, Russia should lose its American economic aid if it is in violation of the law.
The recent controversy is over whether or not Gore and Victor Chernomyrdin (then the Prime Minister of Russia) reached a secret deal a few years ago by which the Clinton administration agreed to turn a blind eye toward these Russian arms sales, and allow economic aid to continue. On October 13th, The New York Times reported that there was indeed a such a secret pact. I haven’t read the Times story, so I don’t know what their evidence is.
Maybe Clinton was studying the history and the culture of Russia.
There is more to the former USSR than communism, you know. Russia was only under communism 70 years, give or take a few.
Clinton’s been in office since 1992 and only has a couple of months left. If he’s planning on turning the United States into a Soviet People’s Republic, he really should get a move on. Hell, it took Lenin seven months and he had Trotsky to help with the paperwork.
