I don’t have any sense of smell, so I feel strongly about taking a shower just before I leave the house. I could not shower the night before, or go without washing my hair.
I take an hour to get ready in the morning, which includes animal-care chores, breakfast, and watching the news.
Up at 7:00, shower, shave, get dressed, eat a snack, make a sandwich for lunch, out the door by 7:30. In the coldest winter months, allow an extra 5 minutes to clean the snow off my car and let it warm up. I loathe mornings and will do whatever I can to be awake during as little of them as possible.
My alarm goes off at 5am the latest I can get to work is 8 am but it takes an hour to commute. This gives me some flexibility if I sleep in but if I don’t I’m typically out of the door by 6:10-6:20. When I’m rushing after sleeping in I’ve gotten out of the house in as short as 25 min most of that is letting the dog out to do his business.
About 15 minutes. Roll out of bed, brush my teeth, feed the cats, throw on some clothes and I’m out the door. I’ve always thought it must be nice to be a morning person, I’d like to maybe relax for a few and watch the news or something but I just can’t bring myself to wake up earlier than absolutely necessary.
Wake up The Littlest Briston and get both of us breakfast. While we eat, I catch up on the news while she watches Martha Speaks. My wife gets TLB’s clothes out and gets her lunchbox together.
My alarm usually goes off at 5am, and I need to leave the house by 6:05 to make my train (comfortably, meaning I am not rushing). I voted 30-60 minutes in the poll though, since I usually hit the snooze once.
I prefer a couple of hours. It only takes me 25 minutes to get ready in the morning, but I usually have to get my daughter’s stuff ready (bottles tucked in her daycare bag). Then I have to get her dressed. That doesn’t generally take long, but my son, who’s in preschool, often drags his heels getting dressed and gets out of sorts (understandably) if he doesn’t get breakfast before leaving the house. Of course, he’s offered breakfast at school, too, but that’s beside the point.
If I’m lucky, I’ll work in about 15 minutes to have a leisurely cup of coffee. But my daughter has a spidey sense for when I’m relaxing, so it’s often interrupted about 5 minutes in.
The alarm goes off at 5:10, and we’re usually out the door around 7:05.
Wake up, start coffeepot, spend some time on the john, pour coffee, give cats a small bite to eat (if I gave 'em a big feeding, first thing, they’d upchuck it a few minutes later, and I’d have to clean it up), mix the Firebug’s oatmeal, organize my lunch, spend some more time on the john, give the cats a slightly larger pre-breakfast snack, wash face, shave, brush and floss teeth, probably load or empty dishwasher, possibly start a load of laundry or take clothes out of the dryer, give the cats their breakfast, go down to the basement and scoop the litterbox, take a shower, go upstairs and get dressed, wake the Firebug, keep him company while he eats breakfast, get him dressed, make sure I’ve got everything I need to leave the house with, hit the bathroom one last time, get my coat on, get the Firebug’s coat on, make sure he’s got his lunch, mittens, etc., make sure my wife is ready to leave too, and get out the door. It’s pretty nonstop. If I’m lucky, I’ll have time to get on the computer and see what today’s Woot deal is.
I usually budget an hour for getting ready after getting back from working out (or waking up on days like today when I’m feeling sick and decided to sleep in instead). I could do it faster (and have on days when I’ve overslept), but I don’t like to feel rushed so I choose to wake up earlier.
Ideally I either get out of bed or arrive home from the gym at about 5:15, with a nominal departure time for work of 6:15.
I only have one “hard” commitment, and that’s only for about 4.5 more months until school gets out (taking my niece to school). I try to get up about 30 minutes before having to leave, but I don’t get “nice” dressed; just enough clothes to be legal and no makeup.
I am free to set my schedule for the rest of the day, so many days I work until noon or so in my lounge clothes before putting on business attire.
I can be ready to go in 10 - 15 minutes if I know about it the night before.
I don’t eat breakfast at home, I do set my clothes out the night before, I have extremely short and thin hair that dries almost instantly out of the shower, and I don’t wear makeup daily (I keep a makeup stash at the office for emergency meetings).
If I know there’s an important meeting or whatnot, then I give myself about 30 minutes instead so I can apply makeup and curl my hair.
If I had to eat breakfast at home instead of at work, I would have to move to the 2.5 hour range, because if I eat immediately after I wake up, I get sick to my stomach.
In an emergency, less than 10 min, but I picked 10 to 30. I almost always leave about 30 minutes after I get up, and that includes 5 or 10 minutes of internet screw-off time. Shit, wash, dress, internet, leave.
