What IS this hanging out of Mr Darcy's britches?

Watching the delightful Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice yesterday I noticed something unrecognisable protruding from his front bottom parts. I’ve had trouble finding a photo to illustrate it, but this one kind of does:

Just below his glove there’s something which looks a bit like a medal hanging off a bit of ribbon.

So what is it? It looks too small to be a pocket-watch. Is it some kind of lever or bell pull? :stuck_out_tongue:

Something to do with his braces?

A watch fob?

It looks like the bottom part of his suspenders.

Here’s wearing one here too:

Could it be a braces thing? Why is there only one? I was wondering if it was something decorative.

According to this site, it is indeed a watch fob.

Hey, in those photos of Darcy on his wedding day, the watch fob changes sides from right to left!

As a big fan of this particular mini series, I’m hazarding a guess and saying it is a watch fob.

But, for the ladies out there, who hasn’t noticed how …well…packaged…Mr. Darcy is.

Or, rather, how clingy his trousers are.

Thanks all! For some reason I assumed all these Regency gents would have watch chains and the thing hanging down was something else. Now I know.
