I was listening to the Seeburg 1000 service and have heard this catchy tune from time to time, but I don’t know what it is. It’s likely a show tune from the 40’s or 50’s, but that’s all I got.
Since Seeburg’s stuff was recorded by a studio orchestra, no Shazam kind of searching works. I wasn’t able to get Musipedia to work either.
The Other Waldo Pepper is on to something with “It’s A Long Way To Tipperary”–the song sounds similar and has a bit of a military march feel to it.
I just watched Ella Fitzgerald singing “Someone to Watch Over Me” and that is definitely not the song. The one I’m looking for is peppy and has a march feel, while this one sounds like a slow ballad.
(I tried using Musipedia, twice, for two different songs. BOTH times, the same ‘answer’: “Baby Got Back” …uh, no, British music hall tune and an old American torch song)
Not the same song, but if that theme song were released as a single, it wouldn’t surprise me if the mystery song were on side B–they sound that similar.
Ugh, I *totally *recognize the melody but can’t place the song, either. It’s definitely nothing that’s been mentioned here so far. It’s going to bug me now, so I’m gonna see if any of my FB friends can identify it.
If that’s not it, the mystery song ripped off its first 8 bars. At the very least, I’m 100% sure it’s the song I had in mind when I told the OP that I recognized the melody.
Unfortunately that isn’t it. As you said, it seemed to have promise at the beginning, but quickly diverged.
One more tip: this song has a run in the middle that I wasn’t able to transcribe. It sounds an awful lot like the first lines of the Brazilian tune “Odeon”
I was able to listen to the clip by plugging the URL into Windows Media Player. It came pretty choppy because it would pause frequently (like once a measure), but I could still hear it.
Parts of it sound like Tennessee Waltz, but I don’t think that’s it.
BTW, if you like Brazilian music you should check out Tom McDermott, who has recorded a lot of choro. Choro do Norte and Danza are good places to start. Live in Paris is also very good.
