As the questions says.
when you drop bait (such as the chevy caprice thread) off the back of a boat (typically for deep sea fishing) and wait for the fish to bite. The “drop the bait and wait for the bite” analogy is embodied in the term trolling.
Assuming you mean in the discussion group/message board sense:
Not to ignore Kalt’s point, but just because I thought that was a little too vague even for me …
Trolling is posting materiable that will probably prove highly objectionable, simply to provoke a response. “Dropping” the “bait” of a topic such as “All green people smell like frogs”, which you know will get back angry responses or “bites”.
If you actually believe that all green people smell like frogs, that’s one thing – we can debate that, and perhaps come to a consensus on the issue. If you’re posting that simply to see how people respond … that’s being a jerk, and expressly not allowed.
