What is your favorite geek/nerd possession?

I have a signed photo of Fry, Lela and Bender.

And a red Swingline stapler.

hmmmm… been collecting nigh on 40 years now - where to start?

The Original Star Trek Leaf Set? or the A&BC set? The First Enterprise Model (with lights)? First prints of all the important Trek books? The Galoog ST:Next Generation Action Figures.

The first 50 Starlog Magazines - all originals, no reprints…

The Original Nightmare Before Christmas toys…

First Prints of all of Zelazny’s works…

I’ve been doing this way too long…

An actual piece of the old artificial turf surface of Kauffman Stadium.

I think my favorite has to be the Star Trek: Generations poster. This is no ordinary poster. First, it’s gigantic, 6’ x 6’ at least. Second, it was designed for use in a movie theater display, so it’s actually got the same image on both sides, with some degree of translucency. Finally the material is well above normal quality poster paper. This is vintage 1994 Star Trek history.

Whew. I’m having to hold my nose just thinking about Han Solo at Star’s End. Believe me, man, they were worthless to start with. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Great geek conversation starters, though!)

They seemed much better when I was 9.

It’s not really a possession per se.

I have a wireframe Utah teapot tattooed on my right shoulder.

It won me the title “geekiest in the room” at a party a few years back.

Huh. We must be around the same age, because I was actually 9 when I got mine too (of course, mine are long gone). And yes, I thought they rocked at the time.

Complete collection of Famous Monsters of Filmland. Also **Castle of Frankenstein ** and **Fantastic Monsters ** and **Screen Thrills Illustrated ** and Spacemen. Also complete Filmfax and Cinefantastique.

Animation cell from the first “The Amazing Spiderman” television cartoon.

And just to make the “The 40 Year-Old Virgin” connection, a subway-sized poster from Doug Henning’s “The Magic Show”. When I saw that Carell’s character had a Henning poster, I neary fell out of my chair.

Hmmm… so many choices:
-My Lego Ultimate Colletor’s Edition Imperial Star Destroyer?
-My Iron Giant poster?
-My rare My So Called Life DVD box set?
-My collection of thousands of Magic: The Gathering cards, all in matching sleeves, so you can pull out random handfuls and play any time?
-My first US printing of A Game of Thrones?

But for sheer geek novelty, I’m going to have to go with:
-My prototype Panasonic 3DO M2 controller

I’d have to go with my Jane Austen action figure. Comes with its own quill pen and writing desk!

The best I can offer is a Planet Express t-shirt. My roommate however has the entire Burger King collection of glass Lord of the Rings Goblets…with toy (in mint)

I have an LP of Allen Ginsberg reading his poem Kaddish. I also have a few copies of Ginsberg’s Avant Garde art magazine.

I have a never-worn t-shirt depicting “First Cat” Socks, of the Bill Clinton administration.

Not much, huh?

Movies:

  • “Trilogy Tuesday” laminated pass, with lanyard
  • original page torn out of Variety of Terry Gilliam asking Sid Sheinberg why he won’t release the movie Brazil (my all-time favorite film)
  • an original poster for the Australian movie Bliss (it’s hanging in the kitchen)
  • a huge subway poster of Herzog’s Nosferatu (it’s also hanging in the kitchen)
  • plus I suppose these would count: the LOTR extended box sets and the super-duper Matrix box set (in a lucite box that includes a Neo action figure)

Music:

  • personally signed note and signed photos from Kate Bush that just came in the mail out of the blue (we didn’t write and ask for autographs and had no idea she knew who we were)
  • original painting that was used as the cover for Happy Rhodes’ 2nd album, signed to me on the back

You need to re-think that relationship and find yourself an accomodating geek girl.

My previous most-prized geek possession was a complete collection of posable Golgo 13 action figures w/ real cloth clothing…all still in their original UFO-catcher packaging.

I bestowed them on a very close friend as a wedding gift. He loved them. His wife gave me the stink-eye.

The One Ring, on a golden chain. I still have the box it came in.

My Cthulhu Plushie (original, medium)!

Let’s see, I have a couple of Thundercats scripts. A bootleg Sword of Omens. A really cool tcats kite. The Cats’ Lair. A first edition copy of Killing Joke (that I got for a dollar!)

Man, I need to get more of my Thundercats stuff displayed.

My “Dune: The Movie” pop-up cutout book.

A cedar-lined closet containing about a hundred thousand Magic: the Gathering cards.

Enjoy,
Steven
