Oh yes, Pet Sounds is another one that comforts, soothes and sets me in a good frame of mind.
Tool - Lateralus. One of the best albums ever made.
Los Straitjackets rule, respect!
Right now my all around go to is Syntax – Meccano Mind. I can leave it on infinite repeat and be fine with it.
If I’m feeling anxious it’s gotta be The Dandy Warhols – Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia and it’s gotta be loud. Really loud.
Grave Dancers Union
It used to be the Who’s Quadrophenia, but in the last, let’s say, 1 year and 9 months or so, Prequelle by Ghost has become my go-to.
Mozart: Piano Concertos No. 21 & 23, Rudolf Serkin (piano), London Symphony Orchestra, Claudio Abbado (conductor) 1983.

The Metropolis sound track Giorgio Moroder produced.
Love that album!
I have quite a few, but The Sundays “Blind” is the first that came to mind.
Buena Vista Social Club. I never get tired of this and even though my Spanish is not good enough to know all the lyrics, I somethimes think the reason I like it so much is that I don’t understand the words.
Love all the suggestions in this thread that I’m familiar with.
I’ll add Sly and the Family Stone, “Greatest Hits.” If compilations are disallowed, then The Negro Problem, “Welcome Black.”
I’ll offer up what might at first glance be a weird choice: Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band. My explanation is that this is a work of music by a guy who’s just so stubbornly and (seemingly) obliviously off in his own little world in all aspects–the music, the lyrics, the cover art, the pseudonyms of the band members–everything. I find it wonderful that someone doing that can find an audience. Of course, I’m not claiming he’s the only one you could say that about. He’s just my favorite example.
And, too, I like the music on its own merits.
I know we’re supposed to only offer one, but I belatedly realized that, in terms of pure comfort, I’d sooner go with Van Morrison’s “Moondance.”
That’s it, I promise.
Shelleyan Orphan, Century Flower
I will take any of the greatest hits albums by either Harry Connick Jr., Michael Buble, or George Benson. Currently, George Benson. (during Dump’s reign of terror, I listened to the tv music channel of ‘spa’ music almost exclusively, new age, Enya, sad flutes, while meditating an hour twice a day a day)
I figured you would go to Repeater. That’s definitely an album I put on often.
If I want calming, comfort, lately I put on War On Drugs Lost in the Dream or Beck’s Sea Change or Morning Phase. Those are my long flight sleeping soundtracks.
OK if we get two this will be my second choice.
I didn’t get my name from the band Fugazi. Haven’t really heard much by them. I got it from Marillion’s second album, Fugazi. Actually, that would have been a good choice for this thread too, but just like Lateralus better.
You learn something new every day. I always thought you were a band Fugazi fan and mentally said “right on” every time I saw your posts. Not so sure now…
As Silenus said above, it depends on what kind of comfort you’re looking for. Sometimes you just want to wallow around in the muck of self pity and ennui. In which case I go straight to Ray Charles:
The Yes Album
Good luck with this
