Too damn much beach! Lake levels are nearly at their record lows. I wouldn’t mind seeing the water rise about a foot. Otherwise, peachy. How’s by you?
“A man who is a genius and doesn’t know it probably isn’t.” – Stanislaw J. Lec
When I learned to read when I was of 3 months of age I took a test to get into school and recieved score of 187. Since then I have learned many hard things and taken tests. The last of which was a few minutes ago. I gave myself a test after seeing this thread. I got an 523 but I suspect that is low because the test was biased toward the Western/European culture.
I am always kind of suspicious that on threads of this type it always seems the majority of people came out as the 140+ genius level. The majority of people being genius’s does not quite tally with my real world experience.
It’s funny how you never see anyone posting about their 100 I.Q. score.
I can piss farther than anyone else here!!
My IQ’s so big, it has its own zip code.
My IQ’s so big, Starbucks has a size above Grande called “My IQ.”
My IQ’s so big, even Nate Silver can’t predict how big it is.
My IQ’s so big, they have to spell it IJKQRS.
My IQ’s so big, they had to measure it in wizzerteens.
My IQ’s so big, you could bring peace to the Middle East by resettling the Israelis and the Palestinians in my brain because there would be enough room for everyone.
My IQ’s so big, even Chuck Norris’ beard is intimidated by it.
The poll results don’t seem to match the quality of rhetoric.
Had a lot of fun when Sandy was in town. Couldn’t believe how high the tide was; it was thrilling to see the sand being whipped up and over the dunes. There are still rocks and other flotsam way higher than you would ever believe the water would come on a normal day.
My wife goes to school in Skokie, so we spend some time along the N shore. Amazing how different the lake is over there compared to down here.
Was shocked to see a long article in yesterday’s Trib discussing Hammond’s plan to provide water to Chicago’s S burbs - with nary a mention about the interstate/international agreements re: drawing from the lakes. Well, more disappointed than shocked or even surprised - after all, it WAS the Trib!
These dunes are a tremendously underutilized resource. Since Labor Day, we’ve pretty much had them to ourselves. I think the surest sign of my intelligence may be the amount of time my dog and I spend on them!
My IQ hasn’t been tested in decades, so I’m sure that now it’s a lot lower than the 131 it supposedly was in high school.
Well, it seems less likely that someone would rush into an IQ thread to tell people they are of average intelligence. That leaves the two extremes, and I’m guessing those with lower scores aren’t very motivated to make their IQ scores known.
In other words, this is probably not a representative sample of the Dope.
You’re looking for intelligent discussion?
The last time I took an IQ test was in middle school. The shrink and my parents refused to tell me the numerical score – I guess they thought I’d get a big head or something, which was ridiculous given how shy and insecure I was back then.
All they would say is that I was solidly in the “gifted” range, whatever that means.
140 isn’t genius-level.
I was tested in sixth grade but never given the exact number. I was moved into the gifted and talented program afterwards. I asked my mother what the result was (she was a grad student in psych at the time and learning how to give those tests was a part of her program) and she refused to answer but did say that an IQ above 130 was considered exceptional and I was being moved into gifted and talented because I qualified. For years I assumed I had scored 130.
I was tested again at about age 28 after a head injury. This was just one of many tests that was a part of a neuropsychological evaluation. As a part of the evaluation the doctor presented me with a bell curve and asked me to put a mark where I thought I had scored. He then told me I scored 164 and my mark was not far enough to the right.
Evaluation of my injury was a part of settling a legal case so I mentioned to my lawyer that I had previously been tested. The lawyer got the prior test results from my school district. He told me there was a change, I had scored lower than before, but not significantly enough to merit consideration in settling the case. The difference, the lawyer speculated, might be explained by the neuropsycholigist’s final assessment that I was responding as might be expected of a person in great pain and that may have affected my score that day.
I never learned what I scored back in sixth grade but mentioned what my lawyer said to my mother. She simply noted that she never told me I scored 130, that I had just assumed and I had in fact scored much higher.
Mine was measured before enlisting in the military, on the ASVAB test. I’m sure after a few drinks, I lost some brain cells.
But, hey, isn’t like Cliff Claven said?
*“Well, you see, Norm, it’s like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.
And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”*
Ninty-five.
When I was tested, our school district gave us a “range” score. I fell in the 125-135 range. FWIW, I was not part of the gifted program, they must have taken kids over 140.
♫What a way to make a living.♫
My IQ is a zip code. In Oregon.
Don’t waste your time. You’re not going to get an honest answer.
IQ tests measure how well you take IQ tests.
