What is your IQ?

Hahaaa! I know, right. My kindergarten didn’t have a test for over 140, because they knew it might make some kids conceited. I remember when I got tested, they quick-shuffled me off to a private room in the back and I heard muffled whispers to my parents about how they weren’t prepared for my scores and they had this cut-off at 140 so they aren’t able to test me properly. My mom and dad just told me that I was ‘off the charts’ and left it at that. I have been left to wonder what ‘off the charts’ means. It probably just means I’m doomed to a lifetime of being adorkably quirky, clumsily bookish and trendily socially awkward. blows bangs off my forehead and shrugs

That’s basically right the right idea but the corresponding distribution between male height and IQ based on the normal curve is:

6’5" is equivalent to a 140 IQ score
6’7" is equivalent to a 150 IQ score
6’10 1/2" is equivalent t an 160 IQ score

It may not seem that extreme but stop to think how many people you personally know that are 6’5" or above? There may be one or two but they aren’t common at all in my neighborhood unless you work for a pro basketball team. How many people do you know how are almost 7 feet tall compared to the number of people that claim an IQ of 160 or greater.

I have no clue. Back when I was tested, they never told us - it was some big secret. Not that kids have any problems figuring out who’s smart and who’s not…

And honestly, I don’t care. I gots enuff smarts to be an aero engineer, and that’s good enuff for me.

I *adore *this answer. Here’s a nice t-shirt for you.

You obviously didn’t account for Cecil Adams, nor did you account for my IQ.

People who are close to 7 feet tall tend to be in college basketball and the NBA, so they also know many people who are close to 7 feet tall. So clearly, for the other part, …

:stuck_out_tongue:

Love the shirt!! I used to have a sign outside my cubicle that said “Working engineer - stand in awe!” But people would just stand there and go “awwwwwwwwwwww” so I had to take it down.

I like this one: t-shirt

Well, on the other hand, I have heard that “there are plenty of 'tards out there living really kickass lives. My first wife was 'tarded: she’s a pilot now.” So, who can say? Maybe the 85 was legitimate!

They gave me the test when I was about 7. My mom gave me the result paper years later (and oddly, it had not only my score on it but everybody else’s in my class who took the test–this kind of shocked me, because they’d never get away with doing that nowadays). I scored “155+” <shrug>. I did really well in school for the most part and prided myself on being smart through high school and college, but nowadays I feel like a whole bunch of those alleged IQ points have dribbled out my ears because there ain’t no way I’d score that high if I took a test now.

I do tend to hang out with some pretty smart people, though (Dopers online, some pretty smart WoW buddies, and RL friends who include two or three Ph.Ds in engineering) so feeling a little 'tarded around some of them occasionally when they start talking about work is probably skewing my perceptions. :stuck_out_tongue:

I went with 60-69.

I am not a smart man. Not at all. As my cite I offer 8 years of posting history here. The only thing I got going for me is I am as humble as I am stupid. It’s a generally endearing combination, I guess.

I selected 60-69. However, that’s in SI (metric) IQ points, which is equivalent to 188 to 216 IQ points in customary American units.

This is cubic centimeters of displacement that we are measuring here, right?

I have a close personal friend with an IQ of 196, but she’s generally pretty modest and laid back, and doesn’t really talk about it much.

She is actually quite an amazing young lady overall; She is an heiress who was injured in a sporting accident a few years back and is now a quadriplegic, totally confined to an extremely high-tech wheelchair, but she certainly isn’t one to let that hold her back or define who she is as a person. She skydives, is a hardcore SCUBA junkie and has a very active love-life, if you get my drift.

Now that I think about it, she would probably fit in around here perfectly…

Do you think she would respond to a poll like this and giver her IQ? If she was a doper? Curious.

Well, she’s pretty private and doesn’t usually like to share too many details about herself to strangers, so…

(But she is crazy about the food at Olive Garden, and never tips less than 200%)

I think we’ve already done the paraplegic with a very active love life thing here.

Well we could do it again! Unless you’re not okay with that.

When I was in college, I volunteered to participate in a series of tests, mostly somewhat psychological. I can’t remember what my IQ test came out to be, but it was way above 140 (high 160s maybe?). Even if the results were in any way valid, I seriously doubt I’d get above 100 today. I’ve totally lost my test-taking skills.

I have yet to make a poll on this site, is there an option to make the votes public? And if so, why did you not select that?
